If you had to choose between the Sony Gold headset and they Hyper X Cloud which would you pick?

And do either have mic monitoring?

Don't get the Hyper X Cloud. Great headset when it works but we have had to send ours back twice. Works for 1-3 months and then the cord doesn't connect well and sound and mic go in and out. Plus you don't have volume control for console use on the headset.

I've heard bad things about the long term durability of the Gold due to cheap plastic construction though. Many people say the headset falls apart after a year or so.

        Re: Gaming headsets

Unless you're beating it or dropping it, it's not going to fall apart.

My original Wireless Golds are missing a plastic piece on the headband, but it's my fault for dropping several times. I just bought a second pair (UC4 Edition). Still the best bang for your buck value for a wireless headset IMO and they run on sale periodically.

            Re: Gaming headsets

I had my Golds for less than a year and never dropped them, always folded them gently when putting them up, etc. etc. and they cracked on both sides and eventually snapped on one side. The plastic is cheap and the way they sit on your head and bend it isn't hard to see why they do tend to crack for a lot of people and snap shortly after. The sound quality was great with them for the price. I know the voice quality wasn't great at all, but it wasn't bad either. I haven't sent mine in to get replaced because I don't feel like paying for it at the moment and have another headset that blows it out of the water(Logitech G930) for my PC that also works on the PS4.

If you were able to get a pair that were guaranteed to never break, then for their price the quality is worth it for sure. However, they have their reputation for a reason. Some guys on here may have had luck with their pairs, but a lot of other people like myself have had them crack and snap all in the same place due to their poor plastic build.

Both of my pairs developed cracks in the headband, second pair I put sugru across it to keep it from breaking. The headband design is ****. They are worth it though, they work soooo well with the ps4.

I use my AKG 612 Pros every single day and because of that I'm so glad I sprung for a little higher price point "audiophile" grade headphone. While most want convenience & ease of use, nothing beats the comfort and quality of a higher end headphone.

I know most gloss over it and think "they can't be that much better, so I'll stick with a wireless headset", I will continue to say you are doing yourself a big disservice. Mainly because for years and years I used nothing but headsets and went through 5 or 6 different brands & models. When I switched it was like "wooooooooooooooooooooowwwww now I understand"!

That's how I was until I got my G930 set. They are AMAZING. They literally make me feel like I'm inside of the game at times because they help immerse me in a way no other headset ever has. And when I play something like CSGO on my PC with a lot of voice chat the quality is so good that it seems like everyone is in their own prifessional studio with how clear it is.

The only downside to them is they can sometimes be quiet when using them on the PS4, but with the PC I'd recommend them 1,000,000 times over.

Where can one of these headsets be purchased? Do you need any kind of special setup to play on PS4/Xbox one? Thanks in advance

I usually buy everything on amazon. However if you want to try out a nice pair first, check out Guitar Center. They have a few high end sets in store.

I don't have his pair, but I have a similar setup with nice headphones. I use this for my mic - http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BJ1...p8L&ref=plSrch

Well for console use it can seem pretty daunting. There is many ways to get a pair like this to work and the most common way would be to also purchase a DAC.

                        So your setup would be

Console - optical out - to optical in on DAC - headphone plugged into DAC. Something like this (this slightly different but gives you idea)

My setup is a little different since I game on both.

I run a Sound Blaster Z sound card which has an optical IN, pretty uncommon on most sound cards but this allows me to send the PS4 audio to the PC, then send it OUT to two different sources, my 5:1 surround OR my headphones. Here is my current setup

Except I now run this mic for talking to others.

As far as where to buy the headphones, ebay you can score some good new pair for under retail price but I'd stick to amazon if you are worried.

Here is 3 pair I'd recommend
                        Beyerdynamic 880 32 ohmhttp://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-8.../dp/B000F2BLTM

                        AKG 612 Pro http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Pro-Audio-.../dp/B00DCXZY1W

                        Sennheiser 598s http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-.../dp/B0042A8CW2

While these are just the start, none are a "wrong pick" they just have different sound qualities. If anything, always stick to an open back headphone for gaming. It allows for much better spacial recognition and will help your fps play. To test this on a cheaper pair of cans, look into these.

These are a steal, and really good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16826138190R

And if you wanted to take the easy route, buy a vmoda boom pro and plug into the controller.

So I'm gonna order a headset on Thursday from Amazon. I think I have decided on the Sony Golds. I'm willing to take my chances with the headband seeing as how great these are reviewed and recommended.

I appreciate the previous feedback I've received, but I just wanted to ask one more time. My budget is $100. Is there anything else besides the Sony Golds that's better at that price point or below? Any steals on sale anywhere?

                              Thanks!
