Great headset and doesn't cost too much.

Arthur Geis did a Headphone review on Polygon a few weeks ago. I ordered the Polk Striker p1 model he talks about.here is the link:

These are the best values for your money in gaming headsets as of November 2015.

          Thanks Bolt,

One can get so addicted to just reading reviews about headphones, amps, mics, etc. As well as learning all the acronyms, lol.

World's apart, even more so because the bass on the Golds are pretty weak as is. For the price they're held in a pretty high regard.

The HyperX Cloud Stinger 2 offers better sound than many more-expensive gaming headsets, has an excellent onboard microphone, and is comfortable enough to wear for hours.

Is there a decent headphone amplifier that works with both Xbox One and PS4...I keep reading the better headphones need that for best sound.

                Thanks

Got my son a hyperx cloud 2 headset and it's great. Very comfortable, durable and great sound. The 2 is supposed to be better than the 1 largely due to a better Mic that doesn't pick up extra sounds. It comes with a 7.1 sound card attachment but that's only good for PC. My only complaint is a lack of adjustable volume on the headset. You have to adjust the settings on the ps4 but it's not that big a deal. Not a wireless headset but plugs into ps4 controller and can work with MS with a cheap attachment.

We had the Super cheap Tritton headset which was a good value but they aren't very comfortable. Pretty decent sound but the first one stopped working well after a year.

We considered the Sony official gold or silver headsets but despite great reviews for sound many people had long term durability issues. The plastic headband cracks on many.

This is for anyone interested regarding the Sony Golds and HyperX Cloud (1).

I have thoroughly tested both headphones while playing Black Ops 3 and several games of Madden 16.

I really like both headphones, but having decided to keep just one, I'm going with the HyperX Cloud (1). I love the fuller sound more, even if I am losing the VSS (Virtual Surround Sound). I like the heavier bass (not overly) and certain highs don't puncture the ear drums.

The Sony Golds are wonderful and if I didn't randomly read about the HyperX Cloud (1), I would have been perfectly content using them for many years to come.

Black Ops 3 - I liked the way the guns sounded more and the environment around me.

Madden 16 - I've never played a sports game with a headset regularly, but it truly immerses you more into the crowd chants and to a small extent the commentary. I bet lowering some of the in game volume controls would make it even better.

Anyways folks, this is Disco and that's my two cents.

Special thanks to everyone whom to took time answering all my headset questions over the last several weeks.

                        Happy Holidays and gaming

I'm looking to buy a wireless headset for my 12YO son.
I need it to work with both the PS4 and Xbox 360 (with the 360 taking precedence) and have a sticker price of around $75 or less.

I was looking at this one and it seems to be getting pretty good reviews:
PDP Afterglow Kral Wireless Gaming Headset.

                          What do you think?

EDIT: It'll be used for gaming but also as a headset for him to watch his TV shows in his room.
Ugh, I should have bought this headset when it was on sale for $66.
                          Now it's $100.

I'm trying to find a headset for less than that which can be used for his Android tablet, PS4 and Xbox 360.
It'll be used primarily just to listen to music and shows he's streaming via netflix.

I can't believe how hard it is to find a headset that's compatible with bluetooth and NFR.
It would be nice if freakin' MS had just gone BT with their consoles like everyone else.

Hi folks...new to the whole gaming headset idea. Never really been into it much but my 7yo daughter told me a while back that she can hear me playing games when she's in bed. Figured it's time to check it out. Mentioned it to the wife and she ended up getting me some headphones for Christmas...Bose SoundTrue around-ear wired. I don't dislike them on the surface (haven't opened them yet) but think I might prefer wireless. Also, I don't see a mic on the Bose...not that I do much online gaming but it could be helpful if I start to get into some games like Battlefront or ESO. I have looked at the Sony Golds as a relatively cost-friendly option but don't know if I should just stick with these. I'd primarily use hem for PS4 gaming but may also want to use them with my iPad. Any suggestions for the best route to go for $150 or less?

Your wife did pretty darn good though. Those bose are pretty good for your entry into headphones, your will just need to assess your situation and how important is wireless & a microphone.

Personally while the bose are a great starting pair, I'd stay wired with no mic but switch to a pair of Sennheiser HD 598's. Open back will sound better for music and movies, while also giving you a better gaming experience.

                                Re: Gaming headsets

I'm hoping someone at OS can help me with this because Google hasn't been helpful at all.

I purchased a pair of Skullcandy SLYR headphones for my 12YO. He loves them and it they're compatible with all of his various consoles and devices.

However, I can't find a way to make sure that when the headset is plugged in, the sound only comes from the headset and not the TV.

How it's hooked up is the Xbox 360 E has an HDMI cable going from console to tv.
But for the headset, it's plugged in via the white-red component connection.
So I'm guessing the HDMI is forcing the sound to the TV.

In the end, I know I could just mute the TV, but I thought there was a way to make the 360 push sound through headset only.
As far as I can tell, the only option is to block voice/chat through the TV speakers, nothing else.
