I was reluctant to return them as the sound and comfort were unmatched in a "gaming" headset but for $300 I expected perfection. I figured those issues I had are long resolved in the Gen 3's so I'm back to A50's, which arrive tomorrow.

The 3D audio of the Plats is certainly intriguing, though not much support as of yet. Maybe I'll give them a whirl down the road. Anxious to hear more impressions on them.
I have the A50's, no clue what generation they are but got them about a year and a half ago. Never had any problem with them in any facet. Fantastic headset.

I had to look it up but my first A50's were Gen 1. Their very first wireless edition. Things have definitely improved since then.

Also, newegg.com had the Plats for $127.15.

        Gaming headsets

These new platinum editions are getting terrible reviews on Amazon and like I suspected many complaining the bass is massively weak among other issues. For $160 there's no excuse especially with 50mm drivers. I was going to get these asap, but I'm going to wait and most likely get something else.

Thinking about getting the 3rd gen A50s. Had the 2nd gen but they were defective I believe.

Which is exactly what I suggested, if you don't like what you're reading about the bass then buy a different set of cans.

I wish they learned that with the Vita and their memory cards. Expensive and proprietary led to the failure of the entire system.

Yea that's obvious, but it doesn't take away from some people being disappointed. I personally like Sony's console headphones because they work really smooth and flawlessly with the PS4. At this point I don't feel like spending $300 for some astros and $160 was a sweet spot for a gaming headset.

I have the Astro A50's for my PS4 and the white customizable A40's for my Xbox One S and I love them and the quality of the headsets.

I'm picking up the Sony Plats this weekend because I could care less about the bass. If it's more than the Golds were then that's good enough for me.

My boy Coff picked em up and he seems happy with em.

I care for bass for the music I listen to while playing games about as much as the games I play. Every so often I'll use my A50's while watching a movie in my room too. Not quite what they're made for, but ah well.

Yea I get that for sure. I don't need 'Cerwin Vega' esque thumping in my headset.

I'm sure whatever amount of bass the Plats have will suffice for my needs.

I wouldn't say the A50's "thump." Bass isn't about being overcooked, it's just about being present and tight.

I'm sure the Plats are fine as well. As long as I never have to try those Pulse Elites again. That is not how you implement bass impact. It was the most ridiculous feature ever.

Same here. Not only that but bass makes everything a lot more immersive. That's why I laugh when I hear people acting like bass means nothing. I don't like overpowering bass, but punchy bass makes a world of a difference no matter if it's music or games.

Hearing someone saying bass means nothing actually elicits laughter from you?

                                How about treble?

Seriously though, sure I don't mind a bit of decent, punchy bass. It makes all the explosions, firearms, etc more visceral. I'm more than sure that the bass I'll be getting out of the Plats will be more than sufficient for me.

The only time I'm using my headset anyways is when I'm playing online games and I'm in party chat. Mainly shooters.
