Nintendo 3DS sales jump 260% after price cut
Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata said sales of the company’s Nintendo 3DS device in Europe and the United States were weaker than expected after the portable gaming console made its debut in April for $250. However, Nintendo dropped the price of the 3Ds to $179 after the company reported its first quarterly operating loss. The move quickly boosted sales in Japan and has reportedly resulted in a huge boost of sales in the United States, too. Nintendo sold 50,000 units between August 1st and August 12th before slashing the price of the console. The company then sold 185,000 more units during the rest of August after it reduced the price, a figure that’s up 260% from the same 19-day time period in July according to figures Nintendo quoted from the NPD Group. “Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching [on September 9th], and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arriving later this year, Nintendo 3DS will offer consumers cutting-edge entertainment and tremendous value this holiday season.” Read on for the full press release from Nintendo. -
Re: Nintendo 3DS
That is good, lets hope it sustains, but it may not if the software still is not there.
This can be a normal side effect of people who are so attracted to price cuts that they rush out and buy. It is like this with almost everything.
Look I just finally bought Killzone 3, and it was the Helghast Edition which I have no real use for, because it was cut from $89.99 to $42 ($5 more than the regular edition). Price cuts ignite compulsive buying.
They still need the software for it to sustain, and better marketing to show is is not just a new DSi, they should have had a different name. Riding on it so much I personally think bit them if the public is not educated that it is totally new, and not just another DS revision. Since it looks identical.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I haven't been on the e-shop recently. Went on last night and downloaded the free Zelda Four Swords. I remember this coming out on GBA but came with Link to the Past. I'm assuming this version doesn't have that. Link to the Past needs to get on 3d though. Nintendo definitely won't be giving that away for free.Comment

To this day I have never seen anyone with a 3DS. I think this is going to be looked back on as a total flop....GT: Event Horizon 0Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I agree it's a flop, but there's a small niche for people like myself who like to play classics in 3D. Ocarina of Time was already amazing, now it's just out of this world.Comment

I am looking to pick the 3DS for my 2 girls. Does anyone know the best place to get a custom skin? I am thinking the black one is the best if I plan to get a pink skin, but not sure.
all opinions are welcome

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Just to throw it out there. Next week at Kmart if you buy a 3DS you get a 35.00 gaming coupon, if you buy a 3DS and the new Mario 3DS game you get a 50.00 gaming coupon.Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Was just going to post if anyone picked up the new Mario. I am still working my way through Ocarina of Time 3D (slowly but surely!) but when I'm done I'm thinking I will scoop up some Mario.Comment

Forza 4
Batman: AC
Skyrim
MW3 or BF3
WWE 12
LoZ: Skyward Sword
Not even including the fact that I have to dedicate time to Madden for work, only on Ice Cavern in Ocarina 3D, and still have to play Starfox64 3D. TOO.MUCH.GAMING.
Man, I needed that. Thanks for accepting my mini-rant for what it really is: the best November in gaming history.Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Yeah, I'll be getting it eventually...does sound like the best 3DS game ever. Uses 3D in great ways (OOT doesn't really need it at all), and great level design.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
