Yep I got mines last Wednesday, a long with Pokemon Y and it's been the best purchase I've made all year. Now if only I could see some more consecutive days off, to really enjoy it.

Also what are some good games that I can look into that are a long the lines of RPG / Strategy type games for the 3DS? Obviously I'm going to be taking a look at the Fire Emblem game, and the new Zelda coming out next month but anything else I might be overlooking?

I haven't played either but have seen positive reviews and impressions for Shin Megami Tensei IV and Etrain Odyssey IV.

I'm still debating on my second game, as I get further into Pokemon Y. I still have a ways to go with it, but I've been watching videos a lot.

I looked at the Luigi's Mansion games, but they look underwhelming.

I think I'll go with Super Mario 3D Land.

              Check the eShop for demos.

Fire Emblem is arguably the best game on the system so that's a no-brainer.

                    Re: Nintendo 3DS

Watched some reviews on SMT 4 - I'm not really high on it. Multiple people saying the main characters are flat + very little character development. And, although it seems silly, the only games I want adopting the Dragon Quest-style battle screen (where you don't see your party, only the enemies on a static backgound) are, well.....Dragon Quest. It works great there for the nostalgia factor - but not with a series I've never played before.

All in all, I guess I was expecting it to be more like Persona. May give it a look later, but for now I'll wait for Bravely Default - THAT game looks amazing.

And I'm definitely considering picking up DQ9 (regular DS game) if I have any time left after KH3D, Phoenix, Pokemon, Zelda, and Bravely Default (good luck with that... )

More thoughts on Phoenix coming after I finish the first chapter (might be tonight/this morning). Be aware that there's a free demo available as well which probably takes you to the end of the first courtroom session in chapter 1 - I say "probably" because I don't know for sure where it ends, but there's a pretty good potential cliffhanger moment at that point.

For now I'll just say that it's pure Phoenix, and it requires suspension of disbelief to enjoy it. The premise of the first case is so utterly ridiculous that I'm finding it pretty much impossible to take seriously. But I've always liked the over-the-top caricature of the legal system that this series portrays.

                      Re: Nintendo 3DS

I don't agree with the characters being flat in SMT IV. The thing about mainline SMT games though are they don't present things overtly like most games. What SMT IV may lack in traditional character development is made up for by seeing the changes in each characters personality as they become corrupted by a specific ideology. It's also really interesting to see the affects your choices have on your fellow samurai throughout the game. Again things just aren't presented in an overt way, and that style of presentation certainly doesn't appeal to everyone. While they share some similarities, Persona this is not.

The first person battles didn't really bother me because the were so fun, challenging, and rewarding. My biggest knock against the game is how long it takes before you get to Tokyo (7-8 hours). You spend most of your time in the menu-driven Eastern Kingdom of Mikado and a singular dungeon. It's not that it's bad, it's just in stark contrast to the 40+ hours the rest of game offers. Once you get to Tokyo, those menus go away and you get a vast overworld and complete third-person exploration of towns and their surrounding areas.

I would still highly recommend it to anybody with interest in JRPGs. Maybe give it a try if it goes on sale. Like I mentioned in another thread, to me SMT IV is like some hardcore niche JRPGs that you often saw during the PS1 or PS2-eras that were not only as good, but arguably better than most of their more popular counterparts.

Dragon Quest IX is just completely amazing. I would recommend it to anyone with a 3DS. It's cheap and there are 80+ hours of fun to be had.

                          Splurged at Gamestop.. Smh.

Purchased a leather case with three game slots, a pack of extra stiluses(they suck), Mario Kart 7, and DK Country 3D. Got the nice case for only 2$ because it was being removed from the store.

                            Re: Nintendo 3DS

I can definitely recommend Dual Destinies to anyone who's played (or seen - my case as I watched them on a stream) the past Phoenix Wright games. The 3D (even just the 3D character models, not necessarily the the actual 3D effect) adds quite a lot to the presentation. Anime cutscenes and stills highlight the dramatic moments as I mentioned before. You'll see several elements of the old games' gameplay, as well as returning characters (not gonna say which ones because finding out is part of the fun ). I liked using the new protagonist's "gimmick", but as usual it's story driven and you only get to use it in certain moments.

For those new to the series it's a tougher sell, but I will say I thought the story was pretty well self-contained - meaning you won't have to have played the previous ones to understand this one's plot. It certainly enriches the experience if you do, but the game provides some basic info on each of the returning characters as they're introduced.

If I have one complaint, it's that Capcom might have rushed the translation a bit as there are quite a few typographical errors sprinkled throughout the game. Nothing that ruined my experience though - I could still understand the narration just fine.

Apologies for being vague, but trying to talk about the plot is one giant spoiler bomb and I don't want to ruin anything for those who might play it. I'm so glad I bought the 3DS to finally be able to play one of these games.

So about one week in, and I've already built quite the library up. The added affordability of the games is really nice, especially since I'm getting a few a year or two after release. So far, I have:

                                SMW 3D Land
                                Ocarina of Time
                                Pokemon X
                                Mario Kart 7
                                Animal Crossing

This is the first time in a while that I've come into a console in the middle of its run (I've either gotten them close to launch, or not at all), and it's kind of nice not having to worry about waiting to get a decent library available.
