Japan loves them some Monster Hunter. This one does look really interesting though, so I will probably check it out when it comes over.


Eurogamer: 1.7 million retail copies in two days, 3DS sells 276,792 units this past week

Capcom explained that combined with its digital sales, Monster Hunter 4 has shifted over two million units in four days, well ahead of the publisher's estimate to shift 2.8 million copies by 31st March, 2014. (Thanks, GamesIndustry International.) This phenomenal launch has made it the best-selling third-party 3DS game ever in Japan.

This big boost in sales was a major boon for the 3DS as well, which moved 276,792 units this past week. (236,700 on 3DS XL - which saw a couple of special Monster Hunter 4 bundles - and 40,092 on the regular 3DS). Comparatively, the next in line was the PS3 at a humble 12,146.

Looking forward to Bravely Default early next year. It's got great reception from Japan and importers. It somewhat resembles classic Final Fantasy. The western release will be based off the expansion coming to Japan in December that adds things like improved graphics, more events, options to speed the turn-based battles up, and even options to adjust the encounter rate. Thankfully the game also features dual-audio because the English VA isn't great.

Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 'bucks tradition' by making key items available earlier

According to Iwata, at a certain point in the game, the order in which players approach dungeons and how they do so is completely up to them — the player can decide how to progress through the story at their own pace. Players will be able to go to Ravio's Shop, an item shop carrying items like the bow and arrows and hookshot, at any time during the game to rent or purchase any item they want based on the dungeon they are planning to visit.

"In previous Zelda games, there were this sort of unwritten rule that said you could only get a new item at a new dungeon, and puzzles in that dungeon would primarily be solved using this new item," Iwata said. "You might even say it's one of the conventions of Zelda.

"But this time around we we wanted to buck tradition and transform the way you played Zelda, and to offer a brand new gameplay experience," he added. "To do this, we had to reconsider this particular Zelda convention."

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will launch on Nov. 22 in North America and Europe.

Been excited for that for awhile. Thanks to Nintendo for stepping up and getting it localized because Square Enix wasn't going to bring it over. Hopefully they do the same for Dragon Quest VIII remake.

Also, I mentioned it before, but the western release is based off the enhanced version and brings things, like: options to speed-up battles, adjustable encounter rate, more difficulty options, more control options, and new story events. Plus dual-audio.

Here's an import review of the original Bravely Default:

With 24 playable jobs, there is a lot of freedom in how you can approach enemy encounters. Characters receive JP (job points) after every battle, leveling whatever job they have equipped at the time. Not all occupations are available in the beginning; going on sidequests and defeating the many optional bosses is the only way to obtain job asterisks.

If you've ever played Final Fantasy III or V, this should be a very familiar system to you.

Where BD starts to get interesting is in the way it handles both passive skills and secondary jobs. While you can only ever level up a single job at a time, you can equip a secondary one, allowing you to utilize all of the skills you've learned under that job. For example, my Agnes was a black mage, but she also had the white mage job equipped so she could use healing spells. The secondary jobs are a bit weaker than if you had them properly equipped, but there's no denying their usefulness. This system makes for some fun character builds and ensures that every player can find their own combat style.

Towns and story-related locations are represented through pre-rendered backgrounds with 3D elements, and they make great use of the console's 3D screen. Cities are layered like a picture book, which results in often-times stunning vistas. Every time I arrived at a new continent, I couldn't wait to explore the area in search of some cool looking locale.

Square Enix's Bravely Default is a strange creature. Designed by Silicon Studios with a script by 5pb's Nataka Hayashi and a score by Revo, it's in many ways unlike any other JRPG Square Enix has released in the past decade. It takes significant risks in both its narrative and its gameplay, many of which pay off in spectacular ways. And yet somehow, despite this freshness, there's something about Bravely Default that feels familiar. A lot of studios talk about wanting to bring an old genre to a new generation of gamers, but rarely do those attempts ever end up working. Older generations scoff at these titles while newer generations fail to see what the big deal was in the first place. In that sense, producer Tomoyo Asano and his staff have done something quite wonderful.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy is one of the best traditional RPGs I've played in years, and probably the best new IP to come out of Square Enix since The World Ends With You. If you have a Japanese 3DS, you should own this game.

I heard good things about it from 8-4 a few months ago. Haven't played a hardcore JRPG in a while, but I'm interested in checking it out.

I still haven't put down Animal Crossing to look at other games, but that's pretty much the sole reason I bought a 3DS anyway.

I got so bored of Animal Crossing I quit playing it after 2-3 weeks for some reason. It was like there was a lot to do but all got repetitive very fast to me.

If that makes sense, I mean I still have it and might try it again sometime. I was hyped getting it because I heard good things and was my first one but it just didn't grab me like I expected

If that makes sense, I mean I still have it and might try it again sometime. I was hyped getting it because I heard good things and was my first one but it just didn't grab me like I expected

AC is a game I really enjoy. It's mellow, and I appreciate that. Put together a flower garden, plant some trees, go fishing or decorate your house, among other things. A great change of pace from all the sports games I typically play.

oh my god yes. Pokemon just came out and that is amazing. Zelda looks epic as hell, and we still have a new yoshis island coming in a couple months? Screw the next gen consoles, the 3ds rules all right now.

I'm getting a PS4 at launch but my excitement is mostly for games that are coming next year, until then, the 3DS will probably be what I play more than anything else.

Really really really looking forward to Zelda! In fact I should actually finish OOT that I have on 3ds not beaten lol.

Awesome portable for sure...games keep coming out fairly regularly. I've been feeling a bit of a lull (didn't get the SMT game or whatever it was), but now we've got the holiday rush coming.
