Only 3-4 hours into it but Bravely Default is a great JRPG. Very challenging even early on with a great job system and imho the best graphics on the system.

Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
Oh boy.... SMT4 is going to be quite the project. Flawless should get a kick out of this - I died so many times in the tutorial dungeon that I thought going to see Charon was a scripted part of that dungeon at first. It's much more manageable once you succeed in recruiting some demons, but man was it tough getting to that point. Especially when they'd just take my gifts and run away anyway.

LOL
Yep, I died a few times during the tutorial too. It definitely gets easier because you have more options. There's still some bosses, and bosses that open up depending on alignment path and optional ones that hit hard.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I think i'm gonna finally cave and get a 3DS as i'm gonna trade in my PS4 copies of Madden/AC4 so that's $80 right there plus some Xmas $$.
Definitely going to pick up the new Zelda and Pokemon when I do, probably look into the different JRPGs as i've always been a big fan of the FF games but never looked into others.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Nintendo 3DS Announced
Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening (if you have ever enjoyed a game like FFTactics), Shin Megami Tensei 4 and I'm sure a couple others I'm missing.
There's also a ton of regular DS games to grab as well. For RPG fans there's no better system than a 3DS since you get access to the DS library as well.
Not to mention both the Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton series are enjoyable.badComment

Have myself set for the next few months with 3DS games. Got Luigi's Mansion and OoT 3D (jumping into this today to relive the nostalgia of 15 years ago), and a $50 eShop card which will be used on Bravely Default.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Probably will use my Best Buy gift card to buy a $50 eShop card which is on sale for $40.
Still working my way through A Link Between Worlds. What a masterpiece that game is.Currently Playing:

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Finally broke down and got a 3DS XL last night. Got Fire Emblem with it, of course. Only played for about 30 minutes, but was hooked instantly. Looking at the number of quality RPGs, I should have never let my normal aversion to handhelds keep me from getting this system for so long.
With the exception of playing WSOP: Pro, this system will take basically all of my gaming time, until games like Pillars of Eternity, The Witcher 3, or Dragon Age Inquisition appear on the scene.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Picked up a $50 eShop card at Best Buy for $40. Having a hard time deciding if I want to get OoT (becoming very hard to find in stores) and two VC games, or going with Phoenix Wright, Street Fighter IV (haven't played a fighting game in over 10 years but this is $10 now so may be good to check out) and two VC games.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
So, here's an example of what Bravely Default's eponymous battle system can do for you:
I foolishy wander into one of the demo's dungeons and very nearly get wiped on the first encounter. All four characters are low on HP (though at least all are still standing) after I manage to run away, so I make a beeline back for the nearest town. And about 5 steps from the town, I hit a random battle which, in this condition, would end me in most RPG's. But in this one I'm able to Brave (basically, take a future turn) twice with my healer and hit the party with two Cures right from the start, restoring them all to full health. The drawback to this is that you forfeit as many turns as you Brave, meaning the healer could not act for the next two turns. Fortunately, that's as long as the fight took.
Of course I could have just healed out of battle, but I did want to test that kind of situation.
Default is the opposite, passing your turn and saving it for later (meaning you could Brave without losing a turn). It's also something of a defend command.
I think this kind of system is definitely most beneficial to a healer character, since they do little physical damage and it's better to just have them Default if there's no one to heal. Then if you get into real trouble, you have that extra turn for more healing.
BTW, this game screams old-school Final Fantasy - about the only thing it's missing is crystals. The job system is almost exactly that of FF5, and the items/spells have the familiar FF naming conventions - the revive item/spells are Phoenix Down/Raise, for example.
There's quite a bit of content in this demo - check it out if you're any kind of RPG fan. I'm already seeing this as a potential sleeper hit this year.Comment
