Quick impressions on bravely. Great art style. I love the gameplay with the brave and default aspect. I like that you can customize the game in terms of battle rate. That will make grinding (and avoiding weakling enemies) much easier and streamlined. The story so far is cool. Im getting a very Blue Dragon feel to the game overall.

I honestly dont play this type of RPG very often (Blue Dragon being the last I played like 7 years ago). But so far I really like the game. I just got abused by a random enemy and that kind of annoyed me so Im taking a break.

I certainly do not regret buying it, would recommend to anyone with a 3DS.

So you don't feel like you're missing out on things by not playing it religiously? That's good to know. Maybe I'll stick with it. I do appreciate how calm the game is; really is a perfect game for me in some ways with a high-stress job.

Even to those (me) that rarely play RPG's? I'm just concerned that the difficulty and level-grinding would frustrate me.

It's not a game I would consider difficult at all. And thus far (granted I'm only in Chapter 2) the grinding has been non existent. I'm sure once I get to a point where grinding is truly viable I will do more than my fair share, but I love grind-y games. This hasn't been one so far though.

I have the all the Lego 3DS games (minus The Hobbit) up through Lego City: The Chase Begins. After that, they changed their art and design style to more of an isometric, comic-style look. Less building and puzzle solving, more smash and collect studs.

Lego Pirates of the Carribean, Lego Star Wars III, and Lego Batman II were good games, but wimpy, way scaled down versions of the console games. In fact, they were direct ports of the DS versions...just graphically a bit better (the lighting on Star Wars III was pretty nice, though). I just got a bit frustrated with how simplistic the level design was.

Now, Lego City, on the other hand, was a fun play. Open world, and the prequel to the Wii U Lego City game. Going between the areas of town wasn't seamless as there was a bit of loading, but about 1/3 to 1/2 the Wii U version of the City was included in the game (not all the bridges were complete to the other areas yet in construction...hehe). The only downfall to that game was that once you beat a level, there was no way to free play it as in the other Lego games. Once you beat the game, all you have left to do is do all the side missions and character collection in the open world. Don't get me wrong, there's still a bunch to do afterwards, but it just feels a bit empty.

Do a YouTube search on any of the 3DS Lego games you're interested in. You can get a good idea how the gameplay is and looks, and its helped me in some of my decisions.

You can tell very early on in Bravely Default that it will be a special game. The art style is gorgeous, IMO.

Long ago there was an open world lego game which took place in a city that I used to play on my PC. There was a race track, you were free to drive around where ever you wanted.

If Lego City replicates that I would buy it in a heartbeat. How long of a game is it?

I don't remember how long it was as far as the story line. I seem to remember each individual stage being about 30-45 minutes probably, Making the whole story probably 8-9 hours. (just ballparking)

However, you still have to run all the extra stuff afterwards, which eats time.

Not sure about Bravely Default. It's getting rave reviews, but don't know if I'm into that style of RPG.

Yes I would. Its not exactly hard but the game can blind side you on occasion with a tough boss, or even common enemy. The trick is you have to strategize and switch things up in those spots. I got caught using the same strategy too often and got completely abused by a common scorpion thing. Worst case scenario there is an easy mode. But its really classic RPG stuff like early FF stuff. If you really hated it then, you may not like this one.

As for grinding, I do a little grinding before progressing to new areas just to be safe. But it doesnt seem to be too necessary. Im on chapter 2 still and have put near 10 hours in on it. So its long.

I think this may be a must own for any 3DS gamer.
