    Re: Wii U Discussion

Finally got my hands on the system as the GS I shop at had their system up

Right off the bat...the controller did not feel cheap at all. To me it felt well made and a bit heavier than I thought it would. The original PS3 controller or Genesis controllers felt cheap, this did not.

Played Rayman and was a nice experience. After going through the game as usual, the game switched to the pad and using the touch screen to control the surroundings while the character moved on its own (Cutting ropes to release logs, pulling levers to open paths etc..)
It was pretty fun and I'll certainly be picking the game up. Just wish they had more games to try ..

      1. Holy **** is the controller huge

      2. It doesn't feel "cheap" to me like others have said

      3. I hate... I repeat, HATE... how the face buttons are BELOW the right analog stick. It completely goes against my muscle memory, and they're hard to reach making my hand cramp up

      4. The system is much bigger than it looks in pics, depth wise. It looks like two Wiis lined up in front of one another

      5. The touch screen was extremely reaponsive, which is great

      6. Rayman looks fantastic, but then again, it already does on current systems, so it's not exactly a testament to the power of the WiiU... At the very least it can compete with what's already out there, which is good I guess

      7. Watching the Mario video... It's honestly pretty cool seeing a Nintendo first party title in HD for the first time. That put a smile on my face

Ultimately, I came away pretty impressed, but I honestly don't know if I could get used to the face button placement. It goes against what every controller has done since the dawn of the right analog stick; a stupid decision to lay it out like that IMO.

At this point it's a wait and see for me, but if I see some badass reviews and a 3D Mario coming out soon... I'll probably end up biting.

We'll see................ I really hated the face button layout, lol.

These console arent going to be easy to get for the first 6 months though.

Reports of the portability of the gamepad while in your house and its ranges are likening it to being able to play anywhere in the house while others watch the tv etc.

THIS will be a BIG hit with Families and they wil buy them up FAST.

      My suggestion?

Go launch day heck tent it stay outside in the cold if you have to you live twice! its a crazy experince but you'll have one of the coolest console concepts to come out in a very long time

I think the game has to be written to include it, it's not built into the OS.

We need to double check that. I think ANY game can stream to the gamepad. One of the conveniences they pushed was being able to play your WiiU while the person next to you was watching TV.

I can't find anything specific... I know certain games use the pad as an addition to the screen (like a scope or radar etc..) but the same game can then be switched to use just the gamepad.

Wife and I pretty much only buy for daughters and immediate family for the holidays. We prefer to buy for ourselves for holiday etc..

In fact yesterday while on golf course I get a text from wife that said "Thanks for the awesome birthday present" (Her B-Day is the 20th). She was at a craft show and found some items she really loved so got it for her birthday.

We still get a couple items from each other to open during X-Mas. As far as the WiiU - I've pretty much sold/traded a lot of the games I was holding onto(also a few extra controllers that haven't been touched in years or longer) to go towards the WiiU. For the most part it's just me and 1 daughter that play any longer..

I hear you. BUT you have some awesome memories ahead of you.
Every year I pop in Christmas video when ours were little and yeah I tear up. Just the innocence and excitement they brought to the holidays. I miss it.

                      Re: Wii U Discussion

                      Just heads up:
                      (IGN)
Be careful when you pause a Wii U game - it just might cost you.

Nintendo's new system features an 'automatic shutoff' feature, which turns off the system "if there has been no input for a set period of time," according to the system's manual. Here's the catch - a lack of input is still counted when a game is running and paused. We know - we had the system shut off on us when we left the system alone and came back after 90 minutes. System - off. Game progress - lost. By default, this option is activated, and appears to be set to activate after an hour, as we painfully learned.

All is not lost, however. This is able to be adjusted within the system options. You can turn the feature off entirely, or simply adjust the range of 'idle time' the system needs to register. All in all it's not a big deal - unless you don't know it exists. Then you might find yourself replaying a significant portion of a game, as we just did.

I read that yesterday. I think the safest solution would be to not leave a system unattended for an hour or more, lol.

                        Shouldn't be an issue I wouldn't think.

As far as spending the money. I probably would have if my wife didn't have such a damn big family

Oh well. Just means when I DO get one I should have plenty of game choices!

We used to be there. Then about 2 years ago we all got together and decided to "cut back" We now do the "Pick Names" things and each of us buy for 1 person for those except for brothers/sisters etc..

For me the things that the pad can bring to the table (along with smart glass possibly in the future) is very exciting. Again though, I have to buy everything as I'm a tech junkie. I'm really excited to get the new Nintendo games and seeing how the MP in same room is with COD when I grab it for the WiiU.
