I wasn't sure, so I did it last night just in case. I'm not sure how I redeem the thing, though. If it ends up that I didn't do something right (clicked on the icon on the PSN Store home page, then bought the new membership), I'll have to call them up and get it straightened out.

So, there's this PS2 app that allows you to copy PS2 games to the HDD on the new slim PS3?? What are the limitations?

I think he might be talking about this, which astute viewers in the comments point out is fake. He's just playing the GoW Collection.

Well, this is available on the Network... I just DL'd and installed it the other day. The way it reads it's as if that if you have a PS2 game that necessitates copy to the HDD, it's playable. Maybe PSN is being misleading?

I think the only thing that PS2 System Data file was ever useful for was playing PS2's Final Fantasy XI on the PS3. Theoretically, it should have been able to also store video highlights from 2K's sports games (most notably NFL2k5) in the same way that a PS2 with an HDD does. But, it never worked that way.

This file has been around the PSN for almost as long as the PS3 has existed.

bcruise has it straight. That app is to allow backward compatible PS3's to play PS2 games that needed hdd space to save online data. FFXI and SOCOM 3 are the only game I know of that utilize it.

Garbage. Hmmm... isn't it about time that the most innovative and brainiest software/hardware company out there should get into the act and let their customers use what they bought from them and made them the megalopolis empire that they are? Maybe PS3 slim owners would consider buying PS2 games etc.

I got a PSN message to download the Jurassic Park game onto my console. It's legit, not a hoax message if you get it (if you went for the PS+ deal like I did). The game comes in four episodes. I'll play it some other time when I'm not busy with Saints Row: The Third.

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion - The New Beginning

                          This week's update.

                          Hi Everyone -
Coming to the PlayStation Store this week is a new category called PS3 Full Games for games that were previously disc only but are now available to download on PSN. Not only will this make it easier for you to find those larger previously disc-only experiences, but you’ll also find DLC, add-ons, demos, and any other content associated with games in this category all housed in the same area once you click on the respective game. Games that are developed and exclusively available via download are now in the newly created PSN Games category.

Kicking off the new PS3 Full Game category is the release of Red Dead Redemption and the Undead Nightmare Collection. You can either download these 2 standalone titles separately, or save some money and pick up the bundle including both Red Dead Redemption (Full Game) and its zombified expansion Undead Nightmare Collection (Add-on). All Red Dead Redemption content is 30% off, or snag a 50% discount if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber.

In PSN Game new releases; check out Jurassic Park – The Game, from the episodic masters of gaming: Telltale Games. This 4 episode experience brings gamers back to Isla Nublar to deliver a new take on the Jurassic Park experience. If you took advantage of the Plus subscription offer from a few weeks back, you’ll find a voucher code to download Jurassic Park (all 4 episodes) waiting for you in your PS3 inbox.

Additional new PSN releases this week include Burgertime WorldTour, After Burner Climax and Hollywood Squares.

PlayStation Plus subscribers, you’ll find new content this week in the form of new discounts and full game trials including 20% off Jurassic Park: The Game on the full series bundle. You can also grab a free PlayStation mini with Doodle Fit. Lastly, get your avatar in the holiday spirit with free avatars, exclusively for Plus subscribers.

That’s this week’s update but check the full list for more details. Drop your comments and questions below, or jump over to the Store Update Thread on the PlayStation Community.
