PlayStation Network will be offline for routine scheduled maintenance on Thursday, January 19th from approximately 8am until 9pm PST.
During the maintenance, you will be unable to access the following services:
    • PlayStation Store on PS3, PSP, and Media Go.

I wonder if anything is going to change close to the release of the Vita. I know the Vita has a different XMB, even though that's not what they're calling it. I wonder if we'll finally see a fresh XMB screen or changes to the PSN. Just a thought, but I doubt it will happen. If Sony wants to keep me interested in the PS3 if Microsoft releases another console, they're going to have to freshen up the PS3, or else I'll be done until they release a PS4.

I don't mind the XMB, but I think it really needs some updating. I'm not a fan of the bubble system with the VITA, but it didn't look too bad with that video I posted the other day. It looked like Sony was going to do a few things with the XMB and they didn't. The crazy thing now is that the PS3 has the XMB and the VITA is using a whole different interface.

The XMB doesn't need a new look, it just needs improved functionality.

LOL well let me try it again. Here was a wishlist I made earlier for things that I feel need changing:

              - Ability to create sub-folders for all media files.
              - Dynamic range audio output control for music.
              - Create (not just view) photo slideshows and cue up with certain music on your HDD.
              - Same for videos, being able to use your own music (might have some copyright issues there I guess).
              - Video playlists.
              - Ability to rate media.
              - Full XMB access without your music ever cutting out.
              - FLAC and MOV file support.
              - "Nicknames" for your friends (that way I can put you all in as your OS username instead of your PSN ID)
              - More and more friends allowed.
              - Better mail sorting/grouping/categorizing (pick your favorite word).
              - Automatic background installs to the HDD after download.
              - This is a strange request but there's an "Autoplay" feature for discs that you put in, but it affects both when you put it in and when you start up the machine. I want the two options to be separated so I can autoplay when I put the disc in, but not on startup.
              - The "What's New" section to feature DLC items from the games I own or have played.
              - Multiple network settings presets for us to save on the machine.
              - Video/voice chat rooms in XMB (I think this option is somewhere, but I don't actually know where it is lol)
              - Cross-game chat
              - Choose your own thumbnail image for album folders (instead of just the most recent HDD file).
              - Change around/sort files within albums manually (like a custom slot).
              - And nothing really to do with firmware, but we need PlayTV here in the U.S. It's about time they release it over here.

I know there's something else I have on the back burner that I'm just not thinking of, but these come to mind for now. And of course, unless Microsoft holds onto the exclusivity license, I would like to be able to play any of my music during any game I'm playing.
What I was saying was if they tried to go for some major visual overhaul, it wouldn't be very appealing to me. I like the idea of a cross media bar in itself, especially with the way that a background plays some importance in the personality aspect of it.

Re: Playstation Network and Discussion - The New Beginning

Finally had had enough and purchased a PS3 last week.
Mainly to be able to play MLB The Show this year.
So I went in and downloaded some games off the playstation Network over the weekend.
Keep in mind I am a single Dad with a 5 year old girl so I let her pick out a few games.

First off we both love Joe Danger! We play against each other and it is a blast! I also purchased Sackboy which she loves too. Finally she had to have Angry Birds and she played it about 2 hours last night. Cant stand the game but like i said it was her choice.

As for me I bought last years MLB the Show used and NBA 2K12. I also purchased Payday the Heist from the Network. Have any of you guys purchased and played this game? I have played it a total of about 2 hours so far and I am mixed on it. What do you guys who have played it think? For me it kind of gets boring after a while.

Jake, I know you're a big baseball guy, so you will LOVE The Show. Good call on getting MLB 11 used; you can use it for "Spring Training" until 12 drops on March 6.

Joe Danger is a lot of fun.

                      Enjoy the PS3!

Joe Danger is awesome. Probably one of my top three favorite PSN games.

Brett has talked me into Payday: The Heist, so I'll probably download it soon. I'm a sucker for co-op games.

I've been wanting Joe Danger for the longest time, it's really that good huh?

The Heist had perked my interest, it reminded me of the demo of Kayne & Lynch II. I may have to give that one a go as well.

It's like Left 4 Dead but with cops, not zombies.

The first heist I jumped into reminded me of Batman: The Dark Knight, lol.
