New Microsoft console in development?
Could be shown at E3 next year.
Original story.
According to a "high-ranking industry source at Crytek," Videogamer.com claims "The Crysis 2 developer says that Microsoft will announce the existence of a new Xbox within the next 12 months, hinting that a likely E3 2012 reveal. Crytek believes that Microsoft will announce and launch its new machine ahead of rival Sony, though the developer is also investing resources into next-generation PlayStation development."Originally posted by BlueNGoldI feel weird for liking a post about exposed penises.Tags: None -

Re: New Microsoft console in development?
They are in development for both. Dev kits (early alpha) are already out there for both.
Just as the PSV dev kits were had 2 years ago by developers, and the new Wii developers had early kits last year.
They always are in R&D and development years before they announce anything. Through that time they are nailing down specs, etc as technology grows and becomes more steady and affordable.
It has always been this way.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami Dolphins -

Sounds about right time too considering that we can see these new consoles in 2013. That would be 8 years the 360 was on the market when this new console launches, not bad at all imo.Comment

Re: New Microsoft console in development?
Would it be possible to make the consoles update-able? I don't mean system updates like we have now, but making it so the new system can be updated from DX 11 to DX 12, 13, etc. I would assume it would be possible, but they'd probably avoid it because not everyone would have their system connected to the internet.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

No, because even though you update the software side of DX in your OS, it is still hardware driven in the API on the card. Just like a DX10 card in your PC will not run DX11 mode.Would it be possible to make the consoles update-able? I agree. I feel like FINALLY the 360 is putting out some amazing looking and playing games, and if they release a console in 2-3 years I may not be in the running to upgrade until they phase it out completely.Comment

If they release in 2-3 years that would be 8-9 years. Longer than it has ever been.
Average console cycles were 5 years tops.
Next 2-3 years I am sure we will all be wanting a new one. Especially with more impressive tech. I know I will.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: New Microsoft console in development?
The 360 has had a great, and long, life. I've really enjoyed them since I first bought one in 2006 with tons of great games.
Having replaced my old one with the new 360 last year I'm not particularly looking forward to replacing it again in the near future, but it is getting time for that.
Just think what computer technology was like in 2005 when the console was first released. Going by Moore's Law of technological performance doubling about every 18 months that means by the end of this year we will have gone through about 4 of those cycles with still approximately another 2 years before a launch.
So I'm excited about the possibilities the new hardware will allow them to do.Comment

Yea, I just completely overlooked the fact that cards are the main variable in this.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

I hope its not for awhile because some games are just hitting their stride and I feel like the 360 still has room for improvement. Also with the recent release of the Kinect I don't see it being for a few yearsComment

You don't have to but the new console the first year it comes out and companies always support their last console for at least a couple years after the new one comes out.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

My .02, I wouldn't run out and buy the new console when it releases if your content with the current 360. As long as MSFT doesn't pull the plug on the current hardware, you should be good for a few years.Comment
