I'd like to think they learned from their experience, but let's face it, there's only so much you can do in 12 months, and we still don't have features that were present 5 years ago. With a new game engine comes new gameplay glitches and dropped features because resources are spent in the art department to make the game look "next generation."

I'm definitely waiting, especially since the next generation of consoles are sure to want $500 opening day, and frankly, I don't think they're worth it; especially when you are paying $60 for software and $5 a month in on-line access...not to mention the $$$ developers will milk out of their title with "downloadable content," i.e. "content we could have included for your $60, but we can nickle and dime you for some more." Opening day you're looking at a mortgage payment just to play something that was probably rushed out the door to meet opening day.

Besides, while I'm extremely happy with my 360, I'm no fanboy for Microsoft, so I will want to make an educated decision on the next generation based on library of games, cost, graphics, etc.
This is the reason why I will try to milk the PS3 and 360 out another year after the new consoles come out. I just need the will power to do so. Right now when Madden is hitting its stride as an example this late in the gen, we could run into the same problem come next generation as they try to rebuild from the ground up on game engines. I sure as hell do not want to go back to square one with my sports games again just to enjoy them on new hardware.

It's really just EA's fault if Madden is only getting good 6 years into the current generation.

EA never should have scrapped the Madden engine and start over for the 360/PS3. They don't get nearly enough development time to be able to pull that off. Hopefully they will have learned from that mistake when the new consoles drop, and build their new games off the existing engine.

If they do that though, then the creeps come out of the work screaming " It's not next gen!!"

Re: New Microsoft console in development?

Madden is definitely the best and biggest example of why not to get consoles early as a sports gamer, but really every sports game on the 360/PS3 launch was pretty wack. It took a good 2-3 years for pretty much every sports game to fully flesh out their features, modes and gameplay.

I'm going to try my best to hold off on any new system because the sports games are almost never up to par early on and the price of the actual systems early on are ridiculous, plus you have to factor in console re-designs and price cuts later on as well.

I'm assuming the Kinect could be to do this through an application on the PC, right? It can already do it on the 360, so I imagine someone just needs to get it working correctly on the PC as well.

Lets just hope they don't completely F up NCAA & Madden like they did with the jump to PS3/360. I can not/will not buy another console if we are right back where we were in 2005 when NCAA/Madden came out and were absolute trash.

You'd think both Microsoft and Sony would be scrambling to get there new consoles out first wouldn't they?

I mean the ps2 outsold the xbox despite it not being as technologically advanced and the 360 has outsold the ps3 (though the gap is much closer this time from a technology POV) so it seems if you come out first you 'win' the overall sales for that generation just by going off what's happened in the past.

interesting stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if xbox goes completely controlerless.

It makes playing ARMA the combat simulator much more impressive and realistic. Plus when you get into flight sims like IL-2, which we play online, flight sticks, rudders, etc. You can never go back to not having head tracking. Having the nose of the plane pointing one direction while tracking your target with your head facing a different direction is HUGE in staying on the tail of your target to close to firing distance.

One of the many reasons Cyros calls me a PC elitist lol but in most cases he is right. I do favor PC over consoles to be honest. PC's can do everything consoles can do but also better. Most people just get scared off by start up costs but in reality they are the same as consoles and become cheaper with building your own and games being regularly in the 40 dollar range with most big titles releasing at $49.99......."ohhh remember those days consoles guys" lol

I think it is very possible we see some type of function of it being used with Kinect. I did a blog years ago talking about head tracking coming to consoles and the joys that could be experienced in sports titles. First blog I ever did, will be neat to finally see it come into fruition at some point.

I was actually talking about hooking my Kinect up to my PC and using it in ARMA or any other game. People have been using the Kinect with all sorts of things on the PC since it came out, so I am sure someone could make it a possibility.
