Never, even Nintendo has backtracked with the Wii U having some sort of traditional controller setup, although with a touch screen and motion.

MS has millions of paying XBL users, and many do it for stuff like CoD. XBLA is also fantastic platform in itself, and MS put a lot of money and effort towards getting their 3rd party support this gen. Going all motion would be the worst move they've done since getting into the console business.

They can easily do what they're doing now next gen. Put most of their first party efforts into Kinect, keep putting out Fable, Forza, and Halo, let 3rd parties cover the rest and maybe buy some timed exclusives. Kinect works on PC's, why can't it work on the new xbox?

I mean the ps2 outsold the xbox despite it not being as technologically advanced and the 360 has outsold the ps3 (though the gap is much closer this time from a technology POV) so it seems if you come out first you 'win' the overall sales for that generation just by going off what's happened in the past.
Sony has never launched first in a generation though. The PS1 launched after the arguably technologically superior Saturn, and was able to get the best 3rd party support as developers had just soured on nintendo and sega. The ps2 was hyped so much before launch that it easily suffocated the Dreamcast from doing much with its launch lead.
