Yeah...I mean I get warranties and stuff, just seems like this type of thing happens often (you search for that error and you get a lot of people, not really isolated).....

    I'll survive, just really frustrating.

It would make sense that since i just had one fixed under a year ago they might support it, no? She said they gave me a new system when they replaced that, so I might be able to get them to replace one, i dunno.

Do you have any idea if I'd have more luck on the phone vs. online chat? If I could talk them into one console fix I'd take that as a win and eventually trade the other one in or something. I just legit don't have money right now (we had to travel and visit my FIL with cancer, plus our own medical bills), so not like I'm rich and can just be all "oh well, fix it"

What exactly is the problem with your Xbox One blue? Whatever the error says, do a google search and on youtube. People usually have quick temporary fixes. As long as you can get the console to read discs, go trade it in to GameStop but be advised that they always test the console and see if it plays games. Or at least the stores here in Brooklyn do.

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo all suck when it comes to not having a warranty. They simply don't care. Sorry that the console is not working the way it should.

GameStop is giving a free game and controller starting Friday through Sunday to match Best Buy which is doing the same thing Friday and Saturday. Or you could just trade it in and wait until Black Friday. My goal is to snatch a new Xbox One and new PS4 for $500 combined.

Should try either trading in now and getting a new Xbox One/PS4 or wait to Black Friday as it's all but guaranteed that Xbox One bundles will be $300 with a game and controller added in. I see PS4 bundles as well but don't see it being available for $300. Of course, who knows.

Back to your problem, seriously, check youtube and do google searches. You can actually find a lot of solutions even if it's just long enough for you to trade in the console.

Yeah, I first noticed it back in September with Madden. Now a new disc verified. It'll play some discs (GTAV, Assassin's Creed Unity) that were all ready installed.

I've tried all the online things. The "holding the disc while putting it in" thing, hard reboots, tilting it at an angle, etc....

For now I'm waiting for sure to see what I can do, I'm getting Fallout 4 digitally anyways.....

Like I mentioned before, I'm not really in the position to just be kicking out hundreds to fix systems. I may try the factory reset to see if that helps, but I don't have an external drive and that blows to have to redownload stuff.

Agreed 100%. I have both my Xbox Ones and both PS4's insured through Squaretrade. Cost me about $50 each to do so, give or take depending on the sale you find and well worth it if nothing else for my sanity whenever any issue crops up...

mgoblue... don't you have a independent retail store nearby in your hometown that does repairs like that? I know, at least where I live there's a small store that sells games, consoles etc, and also does repairs and stuff.

Just a thought, maybe see if a store like that exists in your area?

Oh, and Go Blue! Can't wait! I'm hitting up Ann Arbor this weekend for the game.

Another piece of advice if you want to throw a Hail Mary is to look on Craigslist for people or individual retail stores that fix game systems. Yes it may not work but I know for my Xbox 360 it was DOA (scrambled graphics) and Microsoft wanted like $100+ so I found this guy on craigslist who fixed my Xbox 360 for $22.

I mean, it was some old black dude, seriously he was like 85 years old. He did have his own little store but I wasn't too confident he would be able to fix it (but hey what did I have to lose I figured). But he seemed to know what he was doing and he did fix it using some weird process of removing and putting the graphics card back on with some sort of glue...took him about 2 minutes to do it. .

That Xbox 360 then went on to last me for 3 more years before eventually capitulating to a dead video board.

Worth a try...if you want to take a flyer...

Yeah, i've found some sketchier guys on CL and stuff, so I may have luck there in the future....I'm going to hold off for now and keep looking. Might be cool at just 50 bucks or something if possible.

Going to see if I can talk them into replacing one, but that's a low likelyhood I think.

Found a store who'll do it for $80...probably not doing it today, but I think that'd be my best bet in the future to slowly get them fixed.

Still want to try to get one fixed for free, but that makes me feel a little better. Can get it done local and faster for cheaper.

Yeah...I mean I think I have a solution now that won't be too bad, so over time I'll get them fixed....

Maybe future consoles I'll get the warranties now, but in my experience warranties end up being a waste, I dunno.

I just have bad luck here.

Yeah, if it's a new console, you may have a case. Also, calling in person takes more time, but there's that chance you get someone who feels for you or better understands the situation, or that it gets escalated appropriately.

I'll find time to give it a shot eventually....thankfully I don't need to play any disc based games now, but definitely annoying.

I'll call up and explain that specific thing vs. just being annoyed. Their repair should have lasted longer than a year, or at least support it for a year, you know?

Tell that to my bank account who got paid $800 for an A/V receiver that went bad under Squaretrade. Or maybe my home warranty which replaced my AC and heating unit to the tune of $6700 and repaired my stove for $340.

Life's a gamble, just as insurance is. You have to know when to go for that sort of thing and, in my experience, consoles certainly are liable to act up and an extended warranty is a very very smart investment.
