I just have bad luck here.
Honestly if this experience doesn't convince you to spend $50 on a new $350 or so console then nothing will..

Yeah, I've just never had TVs, Fridges, Cars, Dishwashers, DVD players, etc all die, so it would be a waste there. I feel the benefit now obviously, but if I buy it on everything then how much are you wasting too?

I'd probably do it on consoles in the future, but still not a "buy insurance on everything" type of guy.

Yeah I never get the extended warranty...
Probably should since quality hasn't been a focus for a while.
Instead of expecting 400.00 piece of equipment to last longer than 1 year we've been conditioned to go ahead and pay for the inevitable break down.
Guess in a way we can just call it console insurance.

Yep, hindsight is 20/20 right? Normally I'd say don't let it make you feel you need to start spending money on warranties...but if it happened three times in a year or just over, I suppose it might be something to think about.

The one single time I did get an extended warranty (on a $4000 tv I bought back in 2006, first big purchase out of college) I ended up using it in 2008 with a light engine/color wheel issue, about a month before the two years warranty ran out. Of course the same thing broke again about 7 months later and I ended up buying the parts and fixing myself since the warranty was up...which ended up costing 1/5th the cost of the 2 year extended warranty...so even if I fixed it myself twice I would have saved without the warranty.

Outside of that, 16 years of car insurance, 8 years of home owners, 4 years of renters, two separate two year home warranties, all the manufacturer warranties for a year or whatever on so many different electronic purchases...there never was a time I had something break outside of RROD on my launch xbox 360.

From that point of view/experience, it is hard to imagine having such bad luck with things failing. Hope it all works out.

I usually get extended warranties but my things break after the warranty expires, almost like it's programmed in the device.

Yeah you have to be judicious and relate cost to risk.

Yeah...consoles for sure now, but I'll just be paying 80 per console instead of 50 whenever I feel like spending that money.

Thanks for pointing me to local guys, probably just wait until I'm a bit more flush financially, especially since all I care about is Fallout and Gold/EA Access games right now, so I don't need the disc immediately.

I decided to cut the cord last week after so many years. Tired of paying $150 a month and watched 2-3 channels. So just kept high speed internet at home. Sadly, sling tv hasn't been too good. Thinking about ordering the TV tuner for the Xbox. Anyone use the tv tuner?

I have not yet...Maybe sometime next year when there's DVR, though you may want to look into the Tivo Roamio OTA, sometimes Amazon has deals where you get it for 300 with the Lifetime deal, and I've heard that's the best for OTA DVR.

What didn't you like about Sling TV?

Honestly, I don't really care about DVR. Sling can be very spotty and unreliable sometimes. Sometimes you'll be watching some thing and the picture will get very pixelated, freeze or cut off entirely. I'm hard wired and it does it on the Xbox and Roku too. It's even bad on IOS. If and when ESPN comes out with a solo subscription service I'll leave sling.

Well, I technically helped shipped the tuner. We've found it receives more channels than boxes like the HomeWorX and users seem to be pretty happy with it. You can also stream it to your SmartGlass device...and it's remarkably high quality and nice feature to have.

Functionally the tuner is an excellent product, like many things it relies on what's put in it though, but most can get by with an inexpensive antenna.

I have a $19 Amazon HD antenna. So far I'm getting 60 channels even though some are terrible, but I only care about the local channels to watch football games and so far they look good.
