Re: Xbox One
One other thing to check - If i am not mistaken isn't there some sort of subscription thing on the paypal side (I think where you have to choose the payment to use for recurring payments) where maybe it just hasn't removed from your paypal account yet so there is a mix up with the communication between them?
Microsoft says ok we will not charge again for EA. But Paypal still has listed that it should expect a recurring payment from MS, and when it is requested it will pay with a certain account in the wallet. And then when you try to remove paypal from MS, MS sees the paypal account still has the recurring payment to them listed, so it can't be removed?
Long shot I know, but just throwing some thoughts out there. I only used paypal for a recurring payment once a year or so ago, and I remember something along the lines of it adding a recurring payment entry into your paypal account.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Oh, Phil.
Take your loss and move on. This is a bad look for you.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said that he believes in some instances consumer sites give games low review scores to try and generate traffic.
He made the claim when asked by GameSpot about the relatively lukewarm reception afforded to recent Xbox release ReCore.badComment

He's probably right though. Lower scores do generate clicks and they get the comments section booming. Go check out gamespots gears 4 review.
I never checked out recores reviews though. If it was low across the board the above reasoning might not apply. Although I did play 15 minutes of the trial yesterday and it was fun as hell. Ill definitely be buying it eventually. Just not a good time with forza and gears.Last edited by ricky24; 10-06-2016, 05:51 PM.Comment

In my experience, outlier review scores don't actually generate much more traffic than review scores that line up with the average.badComment

I think he was referring to Forza scores in his quote, but it's been said that lower scores don't generate more clicks by someone that would know a bit about it.

I think they do in cases where the low score stands out And if he is talking about forza he's right. Somebody gave it a 4? That's ridiculous.Last edited by ricky24; 10-06-2016, 06:45 PM.Comment

Re: Xbox One
For Recore it was more deserved....I would question a 4 review of Forza though, that seems like they have an agenda.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
Yeah that's all I'm saying really. If that's what he's referencing he's right. Recore seemed fun. I only played a few minutes though. Horizon 3 is almost perfect imo. 4 is laughable.Comment

Re: Xbox One
He would know, outside of running one of the biggest video game websites there is he got a lot of flak for scoring Fallout 4 low.
I'm willing to believe that, from both his word and personal browsing habits. People don't put much stock in numbers, and if they see one terrible review (on metacritic, which itself doesn't drive many clicks) they aren't going to go read that. I know I skip over those.
Regardless, it's a very poor look for Phil Spencer to come out and say things like that.badComment

Re: Xbox One
No, I was saying Jeff Gerstmann (of videogames.com) has said that abnormally low/high scores don't generate clicks. That's not the reason they did it.

Re: Xbox One
Even if he truly believes that, I think he should just bite his tongue. I don't think that's a path you go down as person in the prominent position he is.
With outlier reviews, I feel like all the focus is on the scores or how their apparently just "clickbait". Rarely ever is the actual writing of one's critique called into question.
Like that Forza Horizon 3 review. I take no umbrage with the reviewer's opinion of the game, nor the score, but the way it's written. Literally, the premise uses a bizarre characterization and accuses a developer of being "bored". The review then goes on to draw comparisons to another racing game which might as well be in a separate genre without actually making any points. It's like if I were to review ARMA 3 and made comparisons to CSGO with my argument basically boiling down to, "it should be like this".Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Xbox One
I actually agree with Spencer because let's be honest, im pretty sure that happens. I played three missions in ReCore and while it's nothing special, I would say that it's at least around the 7/10 mark. 5/10 is average but less than that tells me that the game is horrible and the lower it goes, unplayable. Even Homefront: The Revolution which I played at launch isn't under a 5/10. It was definitely average and I played it for over 10 hours and my complaints didn't match reviewers complaints. There were a few good things about the game too.Comment
