Now is the Show without issues? Heck no, it has issues, but it was a fantastic game at launch and still is a fantastic game, probably about the best sports game there is for any system. Now the launch day online stuff and weeks after it were utter and complete nonsense and there's no excusing it. But the actual game was not to blame. The Sony servers were.

The idea that The Show is not a good game this year is utter nonsense. If you're a baseball fan then you really are missing out on a truly fantastic game.
Just don't agree. Baseball games are hard. Most suck. The Show is fine, but fielding and base running mechanics are kind of awful, and why so many choose to let the CPU take over that aspect. The AI that controls other teams is so awful it is pointless to consider its sim.

The presentation is boring. Realism is not art, it is competence. It's amazing how real they make it look. But it is a game that needs quick counts and simming to be playable. I had hoped that DD was going to be the thing that made it more exciting, but it just isn't there, for me.

I bought the PS4 slim months ago, and it just gathers dust. Worse than the game not really being very exciting, is the notion that in all likelihood, I will have to get up and plug my controller in to get through a game without it dying. I don't like keeping my controllers plugged in, but the PS4 controller cannot see to last through two play sessions. It's just ridiculous. It makes me never want to turn the damn thing on.

I don't need to read what others wrote to justify my opinion. I spent about $300 just to play the game. I played it quite a bit when I got it, and thought it might be the the things. But since Ihaven't played a game in months, and still have no desire to, I'm pretty comfortable saying that the game was not worth the money I dropped when I prefer the XB1 ecosystem.

Neither Madden, nor NHL, are as realistic as The Show, but both are much more fun to play on a regular basis. I will probably just accept that Super Mega Baseball 2 will be my baseball game once it drops. The first game was more fun to play the The Show. So glad it came to XB1 finally. I think the new art direction is really well done.

One of the problems I have with Sony games is the emphasis on realism as art. The entire point of realism was to perfect artistic ability, then to use our minds to push it farther. But Sony fans really seem to crave photo realistic graphics over gameplay. That's just not my bag.

And aren't the majority of problems for any game always revolved around "online"? Except for AC Unity, I haven't had a problem with any of the other 43 games that I have completed this generation while playing off-line single player which is just one of the many reasons why im not an online gamer as I don't have the patience to be dealing with lag, connection problems and whatever other problems that exist when playing online.

Can't speak for anyone else but the last thing I want to play a game on day one but yet, not be able to play it because of server issues or other problems which in turn means waiting for a patch. No no no. Simply not wasting my time waiting for any game to be fixed.

Hell, the only reason why I played and completed AC Unity was because it was months later as I played AC Rogue and Far Cry 4 before Unity. If it wasn't for those two games, there would have been a good chance that due to the bugs and glitches in Unity (even though I do think that it was overblown), I may not even have completed the game.

Yep. I won't be buying it this year because of how little time I have spent with the last two games. I've bought the last eight games. I'm really hoping EA brings something interesting with Live 18.

I think all sports games get like that over time, FF. I get what you're saying though; NBA 2K has felt a little off the last two years. They are struggling to find a balance between offline, online and now eSports, gameplay. Taking away the Arcade and Simulation gameplay settings was a head-scratcher for me.

I've felt the same way about MLB The Show the last 2-3 years. Part of that is my own doing after playing MLB 10-14 pretty much year-round. You're bound to get a little tired of any game playing it that long.

            Re: Xbox One

I'm not surprised if any of the sports games aren't as good as years earlier simply because without competition and a nine month development cycle, there's truly no reason for any of them to improve or perfect the previous gameplay aspects.

Now, it's all a stupid story mode that tells me the gameplay can't be that good if they're building up something else like a story mode. I do think the sports games are probably all in the 8 range somewhere but without competition, they will never evolve.

For every sport, all the old games like NFL 2K/Montana, old school NBA 2K/Tecmo, MVP/Triple Play 97/98, etc. will always be the best sports games ever in my opinion.

As for the games looking realistic, I want games in general to look realistic especially now with 4K and especially HDR, I don't want a cartoon looking game because well, at 38, I already played all those games back in the NES/SNES/GEN days. The problem though isn't the realistic visuals, it's the fact that with a nine month development cycle and no competition, none of the studios have to go "all out" simply because like with Madden which is the perfect example, it doesn't matter how good or bad the game is, the majority are still buying it because they have no other choice or option.

Thankfully for me, I quit sports games in general two generations ago and officially quit Madden with Madden NFL 2013. Must admit that I wish I did this a long time ago as I missed out on playing and completely so many classics due to sports games (and Tetris 2 on SNES).

I don't really understand, you haven't played or bought sports games in two generations but you're commenting on them with what you think is best?

I generally like story modes or at least some form of cutscenes in the sports career modes because it's cuts down on the monotony. 2K has had really cheesy and forces story lines though and I'm not a fan of a linear path.

Daniel hates sports games and the Xbox, but he prefers to be part of the problem in gaming communities. It's important that he not only registers his dislike of something, but he feels a need to post it over and over and over again in a forum with people that do like said thing.

Like, it never occurred to him to just focus on what he likes. Instead, he wants there to be a never ending console war, constantly stoking the flames. That's his jam. He will respond by re-explaining all the things he doesn't like about sports games and the XB1 to justify the fact that he has already explained those exact preferences repeatedly.

This year's MLB the show is one of the worse as far as I can remember. It's a complete bug fest. I know because I play in active leagues and the quality of this game has gone down drastically. It used to be one of the best sports games each year. This it's far from it..

This is what I really need to work on. Time and time again I buy 3 or 4 during the fall stretch, and all but 1 or 2 get left out. I have a feeling FIFA will be in the rotation forever because our house is a soccer house, but I need to start picking 1 of the others each year to focus on. Madden, NHL, NBA, WWE, etc usually compete too much with each other in our house.

I've always been focused mostly on sports games, but with the purchase of a 2nd Xbox One, my main goal is to start focusing on non-sports games much more. I really want to get through some of the exclusives like Ori, Quantum Break, etc over the next few months.

I don't need to play them as I already know. The last game I played was Madden NFL 13 and I have seen gameplay of Madden NFL 17 and 18. Watching the DB jumping animation and hand swatting, it's EXACTLY the same animation. NONE of them have changed. NFL 2K5 13 years later still has far better pure gameplay than current Madden. This will never be surpassed. Presentation in Madden is still a joke compared to 2K5. EA even purchased the ESPN license just to take it away from 2K and they have NEVER used it in any of their sports games which makes no sense at all.

And just like the old school classics, there's a reason why all past games are called classics and the current games aren't, it's because gamers know what's truly the best. When you're me and have already played NFL 2K5, I KNOW that no Madden is ever coming close to it in commentary, presentation and pure gameplay. Visuals, yes but that's expected. Everything else, nope. There's a reason why every Madden has been reviewed and scored lower by critics AND gamers in the last 13 years since Madden NFL 2005. Because they all know that despite all the "fluff" Tiburon puts in the game over the years, none of it matches let alone surpasses the stuff that was in the older games from over a decade ago.

As for stories in Madden, come on man. A story? Really? What's next? Arrests and suspensions? HAHAHA. Sorry but this makes me laugh my *** off just as much as seeing XP and upgrading in Madden like it's an RPG. Come on. All of this stuff is just to distract you from the bigger issue - that the gameplay, presentation and commentary hasn't evolved in the last decade. One of the best features in old school Madden was mini camp which has been non-existent for over a decade. Instead, it was replaced by a lame practice mode which while decent for what it was is in no way, shape or form as good or as much fun as mini camp was back in Madden NFL 2005.

If you like the stories, that's up to you but those who like these features are just missing the bigger picture - that the more important aspects such as all gameplay elements, commentary and presentation aren't the main focal point despite the fact that they should be. And for me, that's one of the reasons why I stopped playing all of them. Just too much crap. Basically, all style and no substance. I easily prefer substance over style which is why all the older sports games are still considered the best because while they may have added in some substance, it's still way more focused on style.

I don't hate sports games. I just think that they're truly a waste of time playing because as someone who played more sports games than anyone here, the more the years pass, the worse the sports games get. Like I said in my previous post, all style and no substance. It's all flash to what will get the "social" crowd as opposed to an actual sports fan. Only reason they sell is because there's no competition for NFL, NBA, MLB and if I remember correctly NHL.

What do the sports games have to do with Xbox One? Sports games are all multi-platform except for MLB: The Show and that's easily included in my complaints. The Show is nowhere near what MVP or Triple Play were except in visuals which is expected.

Don't know why you included Xbox One when the console has nothing to do with the sports games themselves. And I don't hate Xbox. I purchased an original Xbox twice. Xbox 360 a bunch of freaking times, Xbox One twice and Xbox One Slim twice. Just because I easily prefer PS4 over Xbox One doesn't mean I hate it just like me easily preferring Xbox 360 didn't mean that I hated PS3.

And console wars/fanboys are those who only own one console brand and are loyal to that one brand. I'm not loyal to either. I have my favorite but I will always own both console brands because at the end of the day, im a gamer first and foremost. Xbox One has some exclusives that I still have to play and a few next year. If I truly hated Xbox One, I would have sold the console and never looked back as opposed to still owning it and looking forward to three exclusives in 2018.

I know that I repeat myself and that I come across as if I hate Xbox One but I don't hate Xbox One. What I hate is Microsoft's direction and Spencer's constant bullcrap but the direction makes sense for what they want to do and Spencer is just another PR type. It's simply not what I prefer them to do or focus on. That's all. Nothing more and nothing less.

No, you don't know and, don't act like you do.

Madden plays a great game and they upgraded commentary last year on a weekly basis and this year there is a Play Now similar to NBA 2k. Commentary already surpassed 2k and those squeaky voices.

You sure you are following EA sports games? NBA Live will be using the ESPN license this year. So, no, you don't always know it all.

Review scores have been quite the opposite for Madden, they have very good.

I'm not sure why you spout this stuff when there isn't validity behind it, just subjectivity.

I buy nba2k every few years I have and I have EA access and the golf club. Covers everything I need sports wise. I definitely play non sports games most but that's why I love EA access. They are all there if I need them.
