I have a perfectly good PS4 but of late have been tempted to buy a One S on OfferUp.

Actually more than in half because PS4 has about double the installed user base that Xbox has..so yeah that would never happen

I don't think the details of EA's and the NFL's agreement are common knowledge. Does EA pay the NFL $X number of dollars, or does the NFL get $X number of dollars per game sold? We really don't know. The NFL certainly has not dictated versions for the handhelds and Nintendo's consoles. So there is some sort of wiggle room.

You might be right. But a lot of people are assuming a lot on both sides of this. Hell, maybe the deal has EA selling off their NFL, FIFA, NHL, and UFC rights to 2K before being bought out by Microsoft. Maybe Microsoft has run the number and figured out exactly how much gaining exclusive rights to those sports titles will cost, and are okay with it in the short term. Maybe EA and Microsoft are able to re-negotiate their deals with the various sports leagues that would allow first parties to strike their own deals and make their own games, a la MLB 2K.

Most everyone is speculating off of very incomplete information. I'm just put off by how some have decided they "know."

Really guy? It's not that difficult to do a little homework if you want to know. FIFA has extended their current deal with EA until 2022 so why would Microsoft want to go there? You can find out about it with your internet device about that deal.

Madden is a $4B business to EA back in 2013 and you have them selling it from their core and cutting away profits from other platforms? EA pays the NFL and Players Assoc $50M each annually(also look it up). And your answer is that they maybe can re-negotiate with the NFL and FIFA?

Naturally, everyone is different and we can all speculate. You have your ideas, I have mine. I just don't see purchasing EA for Microsoft as a viable option.

          Yes, really, guy.

Even you don't have the information. It's all about common sense, right?

The press release about EA and FIFA's contract extension only states that EA has the right to release FIFA licensed video games. It doesn't mention that they have to release any for the PS4. It doesn't mention anything about exclude classes, or what would result in EA failing to comply with the contract.

We know that someone, somewhere, this MS buying EA would be a good idea. That's pretty much it.

So we are speculating on why that could be. But some want to pretend to have superior knowledge of stuff they know nothing about. You seem to confuse speculation with stating actual facts.

You can't back up anything Odoog claimed, which is what my point was.

            Re: Xbox One

Also the speculation of buying EA was to have exclusives. Why is it so out of the question to think they would keep the sports games exclusive as well? As Jayhawker said, nobody knows the licensing means it MUST be on all/most/more than 1 console, I searched and found nothing on it.

If every EA game was only on one console (sports and otherwise), you don't think that would bring in a ton of people to buy that console? I would wager it would bring in a pretty large spike in sales especially each fall...if the sale actually went down. I would feel very confident in saying it probably isn't happening though so it probably doesn't matter.

I love when people try to shut speculation down with their superior business knowledge and intelligence, yet in other threads they need help doing simple tasks such as transferring saves.

I would say it would be a huge backlash from gamers across the globe that Microsoft doesn't need. Especially in Europe and Asia.

              The Common Sense Idea

Ask yourself this. Would it be wise to purchase a billion dollar company. Cutoff a large portion of the fanbase and decrease its profits and devalue it. Continue spending license fees on a yearly basis (not even contemplating all the soccer league licenses it will also have) as a new overhead towards the Xbox expenditures

              or......

Simply purchase an existing or new studio(s ) and develop games?

Why would the leagues allow that? They lose tons of profit as well, makes no sense.

It’s not superior business knowledge, it’s basic business knowledge.

Look at what Microsoft did with the Mojang Minecraft acquisition, they could’ve easily made that Xbox/PC exclusive but they didn’t.

I don’t really see how acquiring EA and making everything exclusive is good for business. As a few others have said, it makes more sense to have some exclusive items, EA Access merging into the game pass, some non-sports game exclusives, etc.

Well, guy, it depends on a ton of information you left out of your straw man hypothetical.

What is the difference in cost? Do the games the studios have bring an audience with them, or does that have to be built from the ground up?

As for gamer revolt. I don't know. PS4 owners don't seem phased by Sony screwing them out of EA Access. I think most gamers just play the games that are available and don't get all worked up.

If Microsoft can add to the games they have that gamers want, I think it brings in more customers. And yeah, there are more ways to do that than buying a huge publisher. But people have already pointed out that being studios has not worked out well for Microsoft. Maybe getting a publisher with a bunch of studios that are already strong and pumping out content makes more sense.

Well, go on and show me in the contract that how many platforms EA releases on affects the money they send to EA. How much is EA getting dinged for not releasing on the Switch?

What you guys are showing is not basic business knowledge, but business knowledge you are pulling out of your butt. It's not based on facts.

We are admitting we don't know all the facts and are speculating what the rumors might mean. If that seems dumb and boring, you could always just ignore it. It's not like a single thing we speculate has a single bit of impact on what happens.

But anyone claiming they know the result now are more full of it than anyone wondering what might happen.

Lol, personally I don’t care, I’m not trying to make up facts or whatever.

To me, basic business knowledge would equate to this: The more games that are sold with your name on it, the better and the higher chance for more profit. I don’t need a stat to prove that, it could even be just from a pure marketing perspective.

If you or anyone else want to refute that, go ahead. What I’m stating is my opinion, in a forum, based on huge rumours, that’s it.

That’s the last I’ll say on the matter, not that anyone really cares though.

It seems like some are pissed at the idea of MS even thinking about purchasing EA... lol. Well I hated the idea and execution of Madden having the exclusive license but I still bought the game *grumbling* but I bought it. I own both systems so it's a moot point to me and to probably plenty others, but MS is going to buy someone's company and the whole process is fascinating to witness.

Not really, I’d probably just buy an X if I really wanted to play EA games. I mostly play 2K and lots of Japanese games.
