So was there anything at the Microsoft conference today?

It was just the quarterly earnings call mostly.

Does the incoming PS4 announcement mean the 720 will be announced soon as well? My guess is that they won't want to wait until E3.

the announcement of the nextbox will come way before E3, they might announce the actual release date at E3 but the announcement of the new system will come way before then... I would expect an announcement before mid-march

Sources familiar with the Microsoft console tell Polygon that Microsoft, while already aware of Sony's launch timing, plans to hold its own announcement this spring, months after Sony's unveiling. A variety of form-factors for Microsoft's new console, we're told, are already being focus tested.

Both next generation consoles will focus on expanding their reach beyond core gaming to include more entertainment and social aspects, according to our sources. That could include, we're told, a subsidized version of the Xbox that serves as both a gaming platform and a cable box, though agreements with cable companies have yet to be finalized. Last year, The Verge reported that Microsoft was also working on a subsidized low-cost alternative to its next-gen console.

Microsoft has already experimented with subsidized Xbox 360s, offering discounted consoles to those willing to pay for a two-year Xbox Live membership.

Rumblings put it at March or April.

I might be wrong, but from what I've read it sounds like the next Xbox will cost less than the PS 4. That might be the deciding factor for me...

The integration with everything I already own and leading the way in how to do an online network (voice, video chat, achievements, gamertags, smart glass, etc) is what has me leaning Xbox sight unseen, but an open to getting either one.
Really just looking forward to what's next either way.

I can't begin to express how unhappy I was with my ps3 and just how satisfied I have been with my 360. It's Xbox all the way for me.

That's funny, I'm the complete opposite, open this gen with 360 and ending with enjoying the ps3 more.. Seems like Sony is sticking to straight gaming other then all around entertainment for next gen, and as a gamer I appreciate that a but more. I still enjoy MS but I'm going Sony from the start this go around.

You'll go with Sony, then Microsoft, then sony, then Microsoft, then Sony, then Microsoft etc etc. It has been funny seeing Sony fans criticize Microsoft for doing other entertainment-related stuff when the tagline in every playstation ad is "it only does everything".

I like my ps3 , but the services and online play are big to me and 360 does it best. Not to mention cross -platforms usually look better on 360.

I've had both consoles since release. Recently got a kinect 360.

Seti@Home (removed), Other OS (removed), Backward compatibility (removed), Netflix (most used console for Netflix - also first to get some features), Vudu, etc would seem to contradict this.

Sony has spent this generation saying 'we can do that too', copying what other consoles can do has been their biggest strategy.

Competition is good though, and since Nintendo would rather establish their own tier of gaming I'm glad for Sony's efforts toward parity with the more popular features the other consoles have brought to the table.

The same goes for me. The one game that is leading me to get the next playstation is the show. I think I'm going to stick with the playstation at first and get my son the next Xbox...but, I'm a sucker for the latest and greatest technology, (wasn't excited for the wii u so I skipped it) so i can see myself getting the next Xbox as well down the road.

But, i will be starting the next gen with a playstation.

I'll probably be doing the same thing as I did with this generation: get the Xbox at or close to launch, then get the Playstation when the new edition of The Show comes out.

I just hope MVP Baseball makes it way back to Xbox so we can a quality baseball title.
