Add in the larger size of newer games(720/PS4), and someones going to get screwed buying the equivalent to the 4GB 360 model...

Yep, I was thinking the same thing considering games will most likely start pushing towards that 50GB disc size next gen regularly at some point. Hell, my 1TB hdd is already filling up pretty fast by just putting my recorded Madden games on there. I'm guessing that should be the base size of the hdd with a bigger one in the more expensive model. For some reason, I see them pushing out a 500GB model instead anyway.

Granted recorded video is much higher is size though, depending on what res you are recording at. A 1080p record and easily reach 13 to 15 gigs a min depending on codec and settings. So a 30 min game recorded at these settings will reach 500 gigs pretty quick.

This is why I record in 720p. I can come out with around 20 gigs in a 5 min clip. That is around 4 gigs a min. So a 30 to 45 min gameplay footage is only 120 to 200 gigs.

Any of those compared to game size is not comparable in the least. 8 to 16 gigs is a lot for current games. I do see next gen games hitting the 25 to 30 gig mark but not any time soon.

Um, games already hit the 25-40 mark on the PS3. Ufc undisputed 3 is around 26, god of war ascension is either 26 or 36, I can't remember offhand, and there's more than a handful of others I could point out that top the 25gig mark.

This makes no sense, how does a smaller game in comparison such as UFC 3 have 26 gigs, yet skyrim on PC tops out at 6 gigs?

Also anywhere I look UFC has a 5.64 install size on PS3. I'm looking for GOW:A specs right now. I have yet to see a stock game come out with 30 gigs install unless there might be some huge MMO's like WOW that might cover that.

Edit: Just saw the largest installs currently are

            #1 Max Payne - 35 gig, Secret world - 30 Gig, Age of Conan - 26 gig

I'm taking about size on the blu ray discs. I back all my games up to my ps3 so that is the size of the contents on disc.

Well that is slightly different than the topic being discussed. I mean game sizes are getting larger but the norm is not 20 + gig games. Most games are currently in the 5 to 15 gig range. You do have the few that at pressing over 20 but that is only a handful.

Even at 50 gigs a game you are talking 20 games installed to the HD. So space of a 1TB system would be plenty enough. That is also high balling, because clearly games won't all be 50 gigs even by the end of the next gen console life. So 20 to 50 games installed on your HD would easily be possible if a 1 TB was introduced.

Yeah, my mistake. I misread/misjudged the discussion and while I knew we were taking about digital downloads my brain had a disconnect that the PSN installs are much smaller than what's pressed onto the disc.

I have 10-12 games on my hard drive that take up over 20 gigs a piece, but that's balanced out by the discs that are pressed with 3-6 (BioShock infinite is around 6.5 for instance.)

I agree, as does the digital distribution for me.

The companies are too focused (though it seems ms more so than Sony by the rumors, we shall see when we have actual facts) on trying to replace the PC and using gimmicks instead of doing what was their bread and butter - Just a basic game/dvd/bluray player that focused on great games.

Sadly, Microsoft lost me as a customer when they made the kinect a requirement (and I've owned five separate 360s).

Not only. I have seen that rumored before, but I highly doubt that comes to fruition. No company would ever be that stupid... I hope.

Though if they do raise the price on games and find a way to kill off the use of used games, that would be just as deadly. There aren't any games in the last 4-5 years out for the 360 that I would pay 70 dollars for.

I think we are several years away from DD for Sony or Microsoft as the only way to buy a game. The US inferstructure isn't up to par for that to work and not everybody has good enough internet to download a game. Im not ready to give up going to a store to buy a game or order one from amazon.com

                                - Always on is not a bad thing, they just mean the Xbox will go into low power mode when you turn it off like a computer. That way it can download updates and stuff while you are not on your box and when you want to play you don't have to wait for changes to download and install.

                                - I am pretty sure Microsoft is not stupid enough to make it so that every Xbox must connected to the internet in order to be playable. They didn't say you have to be connected to the internet in order for your Xbox to function or play single player game modes. But if you have a internet connection you will always be online.

                                - Mandatory installs is not a bad thing as long as we don't have to have the disc in to play the games. I hate changing disc in and out of my Xbox, plus load times and game performance should be better.

                                - Kinect wont be bad if its built in the Xbox and you can choose to use it or not.

                                - My only question is watermark games, will they prevent us from playing used games. Thats the biggie that remains to be seen.
