Its not healthy for the industry or us. Nobody takes chances on new IPs its more and more sequels coming out every year see Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed.

I think it would be ok if the video game companies started making smaller games at say a $30 price point.
And just who do you think is to blame for Season Pass since you bring it up? For over 10 years the forums were in a frenzy trying to get games early. Look back through some of the posts here and you will see people were willing to spend $100s of dollars and travel across state lines in some cases to get the game 1-5 days early. Now people can pay an additional fee up front and get access to all titles without having to go through all of that and the money goes back to the people that made the game, not a 3rd party trying to capitalize on a limited market.

YOU may not want to buy it, and YOU may not want to support it, but theres plenty of people that do. This is what people are in business for, its to make a profit. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why do you think people dont take as many risks anymore? The average cost of making a title has risen drastically, and if you dont have all the bells and whistles that the AAA titles have, your way to the bargain bin pretty much has been paved for you. Average budget titles cost anywhere from $28m+ to go from concept to the store. If you dont have a tried and true concept with a name behind it, just how many people do you think are going to line up and throw money in your direction to fund the project?

It would be akin to me asking you for $50k cash to help fund my development to get me ready for the NBA and then I would pay you 40% of my first contract. You dont know the first thing about me, so there is no way you would give me cash up front because you dont know the risks of your investment. I could be a 5'2 computer geek and have zero chance to return your investment, or I could be a Lebron type player and you could make millions.

Gaming production costs so much now that unless you can approach someone with a business plan showing they will make a great return on their investment, they just wont fund you. Right now its the independent games that have the huge RoIs on them and the larger companies are taking notice and are going to find a way to incorporate those same business ideas and concepts to their own titles.

What's going to happen is people won't buy as many games as they did this time.

I think you guys are under estimating the sp experience by far.

No one is getting rid of the single player experience, they are just merging it to be multi player competitive to fuel additional streams of revenue. Saying something will be multi player doesnt necessarly mean 4x people running around on the same screen. There are ways to introduce multi player aspects while still remaining a single player experience.

I know that when I was playing Sleeping Dogs I spent a decent amount of time trying to beat my friends in certain task. I wouldn't be upset if "connected" meant that I could compare the most passing yards or interceptions per game in Madden with my friends list. I probably wouldn't pay too much attention to it, but as long as it didn't take away from other parts of the single player experience (like CPU AI) then I wouldn't mind it.

Yep, I love Autolog in the EA racing games. That's why the others are somewhat trying to imitate it now. Things like that are kind of fun. At the same time, they don't ruin things at all, just something extra.

Its the fact that the attention to detail seems pushed lower on the priority list when all of the online aspects get involved. They end up being the main focus and that turns me off because I've seen it hamper games. Matter of factly with higher game prices if true people may not buy as many titles

Yeah, a simple leaderboard is the only reason Geometry Wars is one of my most played Xbox games on 360voice - http://360voice.gamerdna.com/tag/mestevo

I hope this console generation absolutely flops at the first few years.

It won't, but if I had one wish it would be that.

I miss the days of having console games I truly enjoyed playing.

And in your opinion, where do you see gaming failing at now? They are doing what every other "for profit" business is doing, the market is just shifting and now the gaming companies are forced to either shift with it, or shift right out of business.

                          Re: Xbox 720

I like games too much to want the industry to struggle.

I think there are a lot of cut corners, much like there is in Hollywood with movies, but becoming a game developer isn't something you usually do just to try to make it big. A lot of these guys genuinely care about games and as long as the funding and everything else related is in place, they pour countless hours into working on some of these games.

I really don't think they need much of a wake up call.

I also don't have a problem with consoles offering other forms of media. Gaming is my primary focus for consoles, but I use apps like Netflix and Hulu every single day and it's very benefitial to have it readily available on my 360 and PS3 instead of streaming from a laptop or buying another device to watch.

I know people who don't use their console for anything except for watching TV and movies. People's needs are changing and It's hard to blame companies like Sony and Microsoft for trying to deliver a total home experience and provide everything people need in one place.

I guess I'm in the minority and really happy with things.

However It's all good. I think the gaming industry as a whole is ok but I think gamers (at least me) are ready for some new experiences and engaging games.

Main thing for me is I feel there was very little creativity.
Cookie cutter after cookie cutter FPS was this gen.
Yes there were a few outside the norm games but overall this was the FPS gen.
There wasn't many chances taken and .. it's to easy to do whats been working and rehash and rebox it as like you said.. the funding is what matters.

Having all in one systems is fine. I just wan to see some new IP's. as first and foremost I'm a gamer and want a gaming machine.

I'm not as much into gaming for the sake of gaming these days. I need something to draw me in and I hope this new gen does that.
