Have you ever wanted to coach or play basketball at the next level, but something prevented you from achieving that dream? Fret no more. Ask me about SimWorld Hoops to see how you can create your virtual self, and follow your path from the prep-level to the pros.

Re: Xbox One
One thing I'm curious about and don't quite have a grasp on is the entire idea of "the cloud" and how it'll affect games...
I mean are we talking for example, in an RPG will the cloud allow us to have ever constant changing quests and stories...and almost like a real life "world" so to speak that's different every time we play the game where the lands and NPCs and creatures and what not change and evolve? I mean you have your basic storyline but everything else is ever changing and living in real time I guess.
Am I way off base or...?
Just trying to get a feel of what this means exactly....Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Xbox One
Its not really about real time stuff as that already exist. It is about taking the games from your machine and running everything on the server. You wouldn't need a console at all. You can connect to the server using just your TV and internet. All it has to send to you is the rendered video. There has to be lag calculations done though to account for the delayed input to what you see on the screen.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Ah I see...I was under the impression it would allow content to be pumped into the game continuously at any time, kinda like DLC on the fly.
That's where my "living world" at all times comment came from.Patrick Mahomes > GodComment

Re: Xbox One
That's because it's all up in the air right now. It's more of a half baked idea with little (if any) actual applications. that's why all you are getting is maybes and hopes for the future. I think this is more Microsoft on it's heels after learning that PS4 had faster hardware, and had to come up with a way to divert attention from that, and "the cloud" is a nice high tech buzzword, so they threw that out there.
So far, best theory as to what they will be able to accomplish right now is the initial pre-calculation of lighting (which isn't much).
There are possibilities of connected worlds, kind of like Sim City, but that's not really relieving strain on the console as much as just bouncing information off a server.
I have also seen ideas about maybe something like Elder Scrolls games could calculate the world outside of what you see on the cloud, but that really seems just silly to me. I mean, to the end user it would appear no different than having a big database of off-screen activity, with the exception of it all making sense rather than AI calculations bugging out. Think about it like this, we've all seen (those of us who have played anyway) in Bethesda's RPGs the AI bug out and do something stupid. It's obvious and breaks the immersion a bit, but it's an occasional lark so no big deal. Now, imagine the game does that for the entire world. Imagine spending 4 hours on some labrynth dungeon, only to come out and everybody on the map has tried to migrate to one spot, sending unkillable NPCs into death loops and breaking the game. Not as much fun having to redo long sequences trying to pinpoint the bug out.
The other Gaikai/Onlive type stuff (game running completely on server, streaming video and user inputs) is doable to a certain extent, but Microsoft has really not even indicated hoping to do something like that.Comment

I personally feel as if Sony has bested MS at every turn and MS is looking to cling to anything they can find to compete.
Honestly the only thing the XB1 has over the PS4 is the kinect. How large of a difference that makes mainly comes down to how people feel about the technology and do people view/find it a must have.
I fully expect to see the PS4 top the Xbox by a good 20% or more in sales this generation.

Re: Xbox One
Yea I've read that also. What I found interesting was that PS4 has been in the works since 2008 and XB1 didn't start till 2010. I feel more comfortable with the longer production cycle to work all the bugs out.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I share the same thoughts Phobia. I'm super hyped for the PS4. When the new Xbox 1 was announced a few weeks ago I felt really good about it but after doi g a little more research if I had to choose between the 2 it would be PS4 hands down and I'm a xbox whore

I think XB1 really hurt themselves with their reveal. The focus of being a central living room system, I just don't see carrying the weight they wanted with their hardcore customers (gamers). Most entertainment enthusiast such as home theater buffs won't find this as a must have when they have other options for cheaper and I don't see their need for motion controlling with the kinect needed enough to draw in these types. Then the average TV watcher such as women are not going to run out and buy a XB1 so they can wave their hands to change channels for $400 bucks, its just not going to happen. Your main core is gamers and putting doubt in their head that you are moving away from a core gaming machine is a terrible idea that they did to themselves.
As for as my purchase. XB1 with the decisions such as internet connect requirements and the kinect being forced to be connected are two game killers for me. In that regard MS alone pushed me to the PS4, it was not so much what PS4 was doing right, more so what I deem unnecessary requirements.
I am now excited about moving to PS4. Plenty of series I'm excited to be able to play again, a better sports lineup, and a tried and true handling of a game console equals a win in my book.Last edited by Phobia; 06-05-2013, 09:52 AM.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I don't want to say anything definitive until we get more information at E3, but right now I'm not very excited about the next Xbox system. Even though I'm kind of hoping that something I see next week will swing me back to the Microsoft camp, I am very doubtful that will happen. I don't care about Kinect and their new features didn't do anything for me. I've been an Xbox supporter over Playstation since their first system dropped, so it's kind of weird for me to be aligning more with Sony right now.
The plan for me is to purchase only one next gen system, at least for the first few years anyway. PS4 is looking real tempting right now. I do rent a lot of movies through Xbox Video, but I figure I can still do that with my current system until they stop supporting it or just get most of them through my cable provider. Regardless, that wouldn't be reason enough for me to get an Xbox One, they're gonna have to hit it out the park next week.Comment
