GAF is one of, if not THE, biggest game forum on the internet.

Developers and publishers are always hanging around there and using it for posting stuff and getting feedback.

There is a certain... brashness to the community though, and not everything that gets posted there is true. The moderators are pretty strict on that stuff though, just remember to take rumors with a grain of salt.

I'd say they are more reliable than not when it comes to big news rumors, but hey... 51% correct is still more often than not when compared to 49% wrong.

Really? I mean, I don't visit the site but I have run into it plenty of times from links and such. It's pretty highly frequented.

What's interesting is somehow the XB-1 is supposedly the reason. The hardware isn't powerful enough/is limited.

Yet Turn 10 is spitting out Forza 5 @ 1080p/60FPS

        Hmmmmm

It's not that the hardware is not powerful enough to run it. Its that developers are finding it difficult to program for and get high stable framerates. So if this is true, COD and BF chose to reduce the resolution to get high FPS while games like Ryse chose to reduce polygon count and only slightly lower resolution.

          Dunno if trolling or not.

You play games yet you've never heard of neogaf? Of course it's possible but it sounds ludicrous to me is all.

Been going there for years myself.

So how is it that Forza 5 is 1080p Native/60FPS?

Personally I think the rumors are BS & are all about continuing to kill the XB-1 due to their initial messaging.

Secondly if the rumor of 720p is true, will it really make a difference, when the game will be scaled to 1080p anyway?

I mean Ryse is 900p Native being upscaled to 1080p and it might be the most Graphically impressive release title of all titles on both systems

Will it make a difference? Visually yes, it will. A noticeable one at that.

Will it make a difference in sales? No I don't think so.

Most important thing you need to realize is "upscale" is faking a image which means the quality is diminished. Now as far as the difference between 720p vs 1080p. Well under say 32" TV it is pretty much pointless to run anything over 720p because you would not be able to physically see the difference, it is when you get into the larger living room big screens 55"'s +. This is when you can physically see the blurriness between the two.

Even seeing it for yourself you will go "yea I see difference", but is it that big a difference? No not really.

Now with that said these consoles have to run at 1080p 60 fps to warrant the next generation where TV's will eventually out produce the quality of the console. Which was opposite of last generation.

I will say the X1 being behind in the power department from the jump is kind of a bad sign because late in the consoles life cycle it will be even more glaring when all games for X1 are running at 720p while the PS4 can still push 1080p even with the higher textures.

Racing games aren't exactly the most taxing for a console because you've got a single, mostly static object taking up a good chunk of the screen. Besides, Forza is making a lot of compromises as well. It doesn't have dynamic lighting/shadows (baked lighting in 2013, really?) or weather or anything fancy like that, despite Forza fans asking for those things for years. Forza 5 uses the same pre-baked lighting for all tracks that Forza 4 uses, only the cars create shadows (on themselves). From the previews, it looked like it could also still use some anti-aliasing.

Forza 5 is running at a higher resolution, the assets are slightly better and the texture work on the paint/carbon fiber is better but it looks like Forza 4 with PC assets/settings (which isn't bad, because Forza 4 was a great game). It's pretty obvious that Forza 5 was a rush job to hit launch on time and we probably have to wait for Forza 6 to get that big leap (like from Forza 2 to 3) and a more modern "next gen" engine.

                    <iframe width="480" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/mPAQa6Scbdc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I personally think Forza 4 looks nicer overall, especially since you can see that the Forza 5 version of the track has much less environmental detail, and they really cut back on some things (less detail on the Forza 5 bridge, for example). Forza 4 has better lighting for the most part and while the car in 5 looks great, it just looks disconnected from the rest of it because there's no real shadows on it. Having a generic blob for a shadow really ruins it when compared to having more seemingly dynamic shadows.

the rumor was started by cboat who has been highly inaccurate over the last couple of months. And if I remember the rumor was started based off of they showed the ps4 running but not the x1 so therefore it is 720... The was no evidence to back it up.

and GAF has a terrible rep on the forums since they have a large Sony bias right now. There is still some great information there from devs and the like but the forums have degraded to gamefaqs levels lol.

but I doubt this rumor since it has no legs to stand on.

Not saying it's true or false, but the cboat guy didn't start it. He is also an MS "insider" fwiw.

I think it's much more likely developers later in the console cycle will sacrifice resolution to power other elements of the game on both consoles. Uncharted 3 sure did look great in suddenly much maligned 720p.

Much better to drop resolution than to gut other pieces of the game. Surely wouldn't want a game like Titanfall to be reduced to a 4v4 affair just so they could put 1080p on the box.
