Then I guess me and all the folks that I know near me who use it every day must have gotten a lucky kinect that works.

If you shout commands at kinect like it was your close friend it would not work. But if you do it as it is intended the kinect voice commands work close to 100% of the time.

But I dont have a jaded opinion of it so I guess it is more kinder to those

Really? So you buy each game that comes out for both consoles to say that?

I can see 720p to 1080p but 900p to 1080p is not much different

That's silly and 900p to 1080p is still a relatively large difference. Like, almost 350,000 pixels difference.

Some people notice (PC gamers tend to be more sensitive to res/fps differences for reasons) others aren't as sensitive. Just because you don't notice a difference doesn't mean you can make sweeping statements saying there isn't much of one.

When did everyone get obsessed with resolution? Do people realize that call of duty on the 360 or PS3 never even ran at 720p(many games didn't even hit 720p)? Resolution is important, but there are so many things that matter much more.

Honestly I couldn't give two blanks about res

I know I sure don't lose any sleep over it. To each his own but it's a dumb thing to worry or argue about IMO

              B) PS4 versions of multiplat games will still look/perform better. Two games at 1080 means nothing on its own because there are so many variables on the graphics themselves (draw distance, fog, particle effects, AA, etc.)

              C) I whole heartedly agree that software is what matters, though it seems for all 3 systems 2015 will be the year that actually matters for them as that's when we'll see the true next gen exclusive trains starting to take off. Sunset Overdrive will probably end 2014 as the best new exclusive in my book, though, barring anything unforeseen.

Of course there's a difference and 1080p is better. That's a no brainer, but that wasn't what I said. I said 900p and 1080p isn't a BIG difference. Even though there's about 40% more pixels it's not as huge as some make it out to be. I notice the difference. But we both agree that software in the end is what matters most. Can't wait for 2015 as most hot titles will come then. Third party games I always get on the ps4 because like you said they've been better.

Just giving a simple example. You're going to have a really hard time finding games on the last gen that were running at 720p that also hit 60fps.

Look at COD2 to COD:Ghosts on last-gen. By the time this generation really hits it's stride, we won't be having this conversation anymore.

I think the conversation can end now. There not much of a difference. The only way I can tell a bit of a difference is I have both. Otherwise, you have to go looking for differences.

Exactly. PS4 is more powerful, but unless you're side by side you won't notice a difference.

As devs have Xbox One longer I think they'll be able to deliver more on it. Not an excuse, just being realistic.

Either way, if you want the more powerful then PS4 is the way to go. I feel I get the same experience on One and like some of the other stuff, it's not like it's Wii U vs. PS4 or something.

I have both and can tell the difference on very few games and the difference isn't huge, but for the most part most look the same.

                                Re: Xbox One

I would one day like to purchase an XOne some day. I really do. But a year and a half since they debut their console they continue to give me mix messages all over the place. Has anyone wondered what of the 10% from kinect is being taken? I did, and I'm still not sure.

Game Informer asked them at E3 and basically got this from Phil Harrison.
Game Informer: In terms of the choices that have been given to developers, there has been some confusion amongst consumers about what that might mean for basic Kinect functionality in a game where developers choose to apply that GPU bandwidth to gaming as opposed to the Kinect functions. Is there a new baseline of mandatory Kinect functions for developers? In other words, does the microphone need to stay on so that you can answer a Skype call or “record that” or any of the very basic voice functions?

Phil Harrison: The simple summary is we put those choices in the hands of the developer rather than make them reserved by the system. We think that’s the right balance. That will give up to 10 percent more performance, and developers are already telling us that it’s having a material impact in gameplay as well as game visuals. Our commitment is to continue to do that. It’s not just a one-time thing. Our platform engineering team will continue to eek out every bit of performance they can, handing that over to the developer as efficiently as possible so that the developer can integrate it into the experience that makes the game fun.

So it is conceivable then that a developer could choose to disable voice commands entirely?

I think the scenario that most developers are going to choose, where they need every last mip and megahertz of the system, is when the gameplay finishes and when the player quits out of the game back to the dash, the game will hand back the system reservation and then all of the functionality of Kinect will continue as before.

                                Kotaku then ran a story after they interviewed Harrison at E3 and reported this;

If a developer uses the Kinect-free option, their game is flagged as a non-gesture game. Not only will the game not be able to support gestures, but system gestures—such as reaching out with both hands and bringing them together to minimize a game and return to the dashboard—will not work. Visual recognition features won't work, either, so, as Spencer told me, "If I sat down next to you, Kinect isn't going to realize I'm now there until I quit the game."
So is this up to the developer to make the decisions? Will or can voice, hand gestures and visual recognition be sacrificed? If so, which is it? Anyone have any ideas? Other sources?
