    Re: Xbox One

Hoping someone can help me out here since I dont want to go back through over 1000 pages lol

Thinking I'm going to finally jump to next gen and pick up a XB1 either this weekend, or next week. Just need to decide which model now.

I dont really want kinect, I dont see myself using it often so I'm leaning towards the kinect-less version. However, part of me wants to just spend the extra $100 bucks and get it, just to have it just in case I ever want to play it, or if my wife might want to at some point. So... that being said... two questions:

    1. If I buy the kinect-less version, has MS said yet if they will sell the kinect separate to add on to the kinect-less version?

    2. If I bought the full version with kinect... do I still have to have it connected and out all of the time? I'd rather just plug it in when I want to use it, but I remember reading when the consoles were announced and released, that kinect needed to be always connected. Has this changed?

Appreciate the help, looking forward to jumping to next gen!

You will be able to buy kinect stand alone soon. I guess you could plug it in when you want to use it. Not sure why you would want to go through that trouble though. The best thing about kinect right now doesn't even involve gaming plus it doesn't look bad sitting in front of the tv.

Thanks. How tall is the kinect unit itself? I've got a 60 inch Samsung that doesn't sit very high on its stand. It's pretty low to the table it sits on. I cant even put my center surround sound speaker in front of it.

I also have a 60 inch tv. My kinect sits on top of my center channel speaker.

I have a 65 inch. I actually just rest the kinect of the tv stand itself. Not sure if that would work for you. I put a stack of games near it so you can see the height. Roughly the height of 4 game cases.

Awesome! Thanks for that. That really helps!

Im leaning towards saving the $100 bucks right now, not getting the kinect, and picking it up at a later date if something comes out that I'd really want for it. I dont plan on using it to control the system, or watch tv etc, etc, strictly for sports gaming, halo, and streaming netflix.

Thanks for the help! If all goes well, I may have one this weekend!

Is anyone else having disc drive issues? Trying to play a Blu ray is like trying to play a original Nintendo game. Really wanted my one to he my primary Blu ray player when I get my basement done but it's apparently a huge pain in the ***. Even happens with games sometimes. I'm constantly wiping down discs that are not even dirty.

I'd look into a warranty return. The drive shouldn't be having that trouble.

Take a look at myservice.xbox.com. You should be able to set up your return online. There should also be an option to have them put a hold on your credit card, ship you another console, then you ship your old one back to them. Once they receive your old one, they remove the hold.

ill look into it. How long is the warranty on these things??

I would prefer to do the hold option, I have a friend that did it though and it sounded awful. He sent it back and they said they never got it so he got charged for two. I think he eventually got it worked out though.

would i literally just be returning the console?

Check out Microcenter. They were selling the Xbox one with Kinect for $400 in store only last week. Don't know if the deal is still going, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Manufacturer warranty is good for a year after purchase. I haven't had to use it, myself. Yes, you would just be returning the defective console.
