I really don't go out anymore for Black Friday and it's not because I cannot take the waiting, it's not because I can't stand the crowds or the craziness, it's because IMO it's mostly a big bait and switch and the doorbusters are just not usually available.

I got tired of going out for 8 deals and finding 1 of them.

So IMO don't believe the Black Friday lie, LOL - A $42 NBA 2K17 in hand is worth a lot more than a $27 NBA 2K17 that exists in your hopes.

Well me and my wife usually go and we go hours before and are usually first in line. That's where the waiting can turn into 6+ hours by the time you get to the check out

But a few years back we were not used to going much and got there like 30 mins before it started and yeah those copies go fast. But you could simply go to the back where they usually sell the games and those said games would ring up the same price(not sure if that still works)

Last year I seen several people ask for those games in the regular game section and they simply held onto them until the official time of the Black Friday started and they still rang up at those cheap prices. Again I'm not sure that still works but I have seen it happen

If you are gonna fart around and expect to get one of those copies 30mins-1 hour before it starts then you should just stay home for sure .... I personally think it's quite worth it

Not sure if I totally got what you were saying, but I see it as spending 6+ hours is totally worth it to save $15? Life is only so long...

Life is actually the longest thing you do [emoji6]

Point being and using that 2K17 price of $42 vs $27 you could literally buy another one of the $15 games like Far Cry primal for $15 or even thus giving you another game worth hours of gameplay

But yeah if you are doing it for 1 game then no it wouldn't even be worth the gas to drive there. I buy many though so it saves me a bunch of $

I'd prefer to buy digital though

Maybe my city (like 110,000+) isn't big enough to experience craziness but I've never had any issues walking into a store and finding any Black Friday deal I've set out to find. Busier, yes, but no crazy lines or anything like that.

Also give me physical for consoles any day of the week.

Yea I'm in the same boat. Yea the stores are busy but never the craziness you hear about like waiting in line for 6+ hours or people fighting for the last item on a sale. But I have never found a deal on a video game that I didn't get. I've only gone out the past 2-3 years. But have been get everything I have wanted. A couple years ago I wanted a new TV which was on sale at BB and was lucky enough to get the last one. That's the closest I have come to not getting a sale.

Dude, I haven't bought a physical disc this entire generation. I got a couple as gifts that I flipped and used the money for the digital versions.

I don't want to get off my couch to change a disk, and you think I'm going shopping on Black Friday? I pay a premium for digital because it is worth it to me.

Also, the sooner physical disks are killed off, like on PC, the sooner digital prices will drop. Physical disks are inventory that has to move, or is just lost $$$. Time is money, so price drops happen to move inventory before retailers get stuck. Digital is virtual inventory, which makes it easier for publishers to wait.

But once the secondary market and the physical disks it requires are vanquished, you will more Steam like prices, as it will be more important to keep revenue flowing, and digital sales won't leave inventory on shelves.

Went to the mall with my wife last night, and she said something about going into GameStop. I literally had no reason to walk in. It just offers almost nothing to me.

And the notion of a console world with non-physical disks will happen when MS and Sony offer me 20% off a new game for AT LEAST the first 2 weeks after release and prior to that for having Live or PS+.

I think the last deal I got snookered on was Madden 12 for PS3 for my nephew. Walmart advertised it for $19 if memory serves. So I go there that morning and they are sold out (I got there about 9am or something) but they had a ton of Xbox 360 Madden 12.

So I bought him that one, knowing I would try to exchange it for the PS3. I kept my receipt and didn't open it. I took it back a few days later and sure enough they had the PS3 Madden back in stock.

I go to the car, get the game, come back in and the woman at the service desk says I cannot exchange it even though its unopened. I asked why and she said, well you can but its $59.99 and the game you bought was $19.99. I said, well technically that's correct but it's the same game, different systems and you were out of the one on the PS3 on Black Friday.

Anyways, she gets all snooty and mad so I ask for a manager who says to go ahead and do it.

After that I said, ok, I'll still shop on Black Friday but it's going to be online and/or just "normal shopping" in regards to just not looking for one specific item at one specific price.

So now if we do go out on Black Friday its just whenever we wake up and we go looking for just deals in general. For very SPECIFIC things I wake up early and order them online. It works out better for me doing it that way as I still find some bargains (got about half off a Dyson a couple of years ago at Best Buy on an online deal and picked it up there later) but I don't have to get all disappointed cuz "X or Y" was such a great deal and I didn't get up and stand in line for 6 hours starting at 4am, LOL

You didn't get "snookered on a deal".

You tried to game the system and take advantage of a store and got lucky with a manager that probably didn't want to deal with a pain in the butt customer in a busy time.

New Hampshire allows stores to be on Thanksgiving so the waiting in line at 4am for a 6am opening doesn't happen to us. So we eat, spend time with our family (don't know how much of our family we'll see but I don't wanna get into it on here) and then we'll head up to New Hampshire at like 5 or 6 pm. I don't think we've had to wait in any lines to get into a store just wait in line to check out. And the people at the BB we go to are actually knowledgeable so that works out as well. We went in Walmart or Target last year took a quick look around and left because the place was trashed and we went later on Black Friday like noon time so we figured we wouldn't find what we were looking for.

Maybe because it should be common sense as to why PC is cheaper.

Like the fact that it's an open ecosystem, that anyone can release on and nobody controls the store. Microsoft and Sony have final say on what goes into their store.

Game publishers don't have to pay a platform fee. Valve takes a cut from sales on Steam, but that is akin to what retailers take - not a fee to be on the platform like the consoles have that is added on top of the retailers cut.

Budgets keep rising, which means that prices will stay fixed at $59.99 but you will also see a lot of DLC and such as well.

Retail (physical) stores don't set their own prices on games. Publishers do. If those stores drop below that price, they get punished by the publishers.

The main reason, however is the walled garden argument. Sony and Microsoft have the final word on literally everything that goes on in their store. From what gets approved to what the prices will be. There is zero competition.

The PC is an open ecosystem. You can buy Steam codes from hundreds of different sites that can set their own prices and compete with each other.

                                Take your snark elsewhere.
