Scorpio is the same as the PS4 Pro to me. A more powerful version of the base console but will be held back because of it. Seriously, when you see Crackdown 3 and what it will be like on Scorpio with 6TF of power compared to the 1.8TF of power on the base Xbox One, I just have a feeling that the game will be held back from what it should be on Scorpio because of parity and not wanting to split the user base.

Would love it if Scorpio is their next gen console and just allow full backwards compatibility so all Xbox One games will play and run on Scorpio but all future Scorpio games won't be able to run on the current Xbox One.

As someone who's in the middle regarding PS4 Pro, I just think the entire mid-gen console upgrades will do more harm than good overall. Seriously, what's the point in having the extra power and capabilities if it's not properly utilized and taken full advantage of?

On a related side note - I sold my Xbox One Slim back in November since there weren't going to be any more games for me that im interested in playing and the one game I was interested in was State of Decay 2 but that appears to be an online only co-op game and while that's not official or confirmed, it sounds like that's what it's going to be. Because of that and wanting a black Slim model, I sold it to a co-worker for $200.

However, after watching the trailer for Forza Horizon 3's Blizzard Mountain expansion (first of two by the way), I got hyped up and want to play it and Forza in general again. Because of this, I purchased the Xbox One Slim Battlefield 1 bundle for $300 with a $50 Best Buy GC and an extra sealed controller. Once I sell the game and controller, I'll basically be paying $200 to get it back for the fourth time.

(Related side note - I have realized that im as bad or worse than Tomba who kept buying Wii U when a new game he wanted to play was released. LOL.)

Anyway, so now im getting it back and should be here on Thursday. The entire point of this extra long post is the following -

Forza Horizon 3 base game and Blizzard Mountain look AMAZING on a console that has only 1.8TF of power so that makes me wonder what can be done with Scorpio BUT only if it's not being held back by the base console. Still truly believe that mid-gen consoles are going to be more of a negative than a positive when all is said and done and really wish that both Sony and Microsoft would have just waited for PS5 and Xbox 4.

Really hoping Scorpio is not connected to Xbox One. Simply see it as being the better move in my opinion for so many reasons. E3 2017 will definitely be interesting to say the least.

And if anyone has any info on if State of Decay 2 can be played completely solo, please let me know as that would make me very happy. Thanks and sorry for the long dragged out post.

I hope not. Simply because if it's held back, it defeats the purpose of it's existence.

        It'll be a beast I'm sure.
Hope this is true. Would be a waste if it's held back.

I don't see this as what gaming will be. I see PRO/Scorpio as a one and done simply because both the base PS4 and the base Xbox One were underpowered and kind of obsolete when they were released in 2013. Pro and Scorpio is what the consoles should have been at launch.

Only way mid-gen consoles become an every gen thing is if they sell at a better pace than what the base consoles have sold at. And in this regard, I simply don't see that happening.

I can easily see PS5 being shown and released in the Fall of 2019 and Xbox 4 being a year or two later. The Pro/Scorpio are nothing more than stopgaps in my opinion simply because the tech will eventually progress and the consoles will be obsolete especially on the CPU side which is more important than the GPU side.

Have to wait and see what happens. Just hoping Scorpio isn't held back by the base Xbox One like the Pro is held back by the base PS4.

I don't think a console that plays native 4k games is going to be obsolete in 2 years. I agree with Ps5. Sony will have to make something that at least comes close to scorpios power.

            Re: Xbox One

When it comes right down to it though aren't we just talking semantics?

The PS4 Pro could have been called the PS5 and just been labeled as "backwards compatible".

Now I know I know people would have howled if it had been called PS5 and it would have split the market for games in regards to what they worked with but what I'm getting at is that we are just hung up on names.

In a way it benefits all of us if we see a PS4, then a PS4 Pro, a PS4 Elite, etc etc because then all of our games, $200 racing wheels, etc are still compatible.

But the main point I think is we aren't going to see a console get released and then be the de facto console for 10 years or so like the PS2 anymore.

            Technology changes too quickly.

From what I've heard, the GPU for the Scorpio is on par with an overclocked GTX 1070, nearing 1080 performance. That won't be obsolete for a while. Especially if the RAM is GDDR5X etc. You're talking about a beast. All hearsay at this point but apparently Microsoft is fully committed to providing a flawless 4k system.

They're not exactly comparable since we're talking AMD vs Nvidia TF. It's probably more comparable to an overclocked RX 480. Just based on the numbers, 1070/1080 will still blow Project Scorpio away.

But we're still lacking a lot of information here.

When do you guys think this will realistically hit? I am getting a 4K tv soon and want a player but I don't want to go buy an Xbox One S and then have the Scorpio hit.

It *is* supposed to drop in 2017 right??

You are correct. They mentioned at E3 that they are shooting for a Holiday 2017 release. I would guess around November 2017 if things go as planned.

Im pretty excited for Scorpio. Im planning on saving a good grip of cash from here on out for the Scorpio.

OMG if it comes out on Black Friday it is going to be nuts...

I plan to order one asap on Amazon the instant they open it up to preorder.

That's how I got my PS4 without any hassle, and if some of you may recall, it was quite difficult to score those for a while when it launched..

Yea they say holiday season 2017. I'm super excited for it and there's many rumors that forza 7 and I'm sure other exclusives will be available for the Scorpio on launch.

My guess in regards to games would be Crackdown 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 that show off the console. A wildcard could be a big third party game like Assassin's Creed 2017. Also, for those who don't know, PlayGround Games is rumored to be working on a new IP which isn't related to Forza. If true, it could be a Scorpio game. Maybe not launch but something you see at E3.

Not sure why there's still a believe that the Scorpio will be any different than what the PS Pro is doing. These rigs were built for 4k viewership and VR. As recent as this past summer, it was also confirmed by Microsoft's Head of Marketing what their plan is.

Microsoft also announced that after the console is released, new games will come to both. But one of the main points of confusion around the announcement was whether or not the Scorpio would get exclusive games. In a new interview, Head of Xbox Marketing Aaron Greenberg clarified Microsoft's policy, saying that while Microsoft won't publish exclusive games on the Scorpio, VR titles are exempt from this policy.

"We said we're not going to have console-exclusive games for Project Scorpio. It's one ecosystem--whether you have an Xbox One S or Project Scorpio, we don't want anyone to be left behind, Now, with the power and capabilities we have, we'll be able to do high-fidelity VR. Now, that space, we don't think of that as console gaming, we think of that as high-fidelity VR, and so with the VR experiences those will be new things that you will get on Project Scorpio."

It seems like Scorpio will have a lot more power than PS4 Pro, so the improvements will be better than that...you can actually game in 4k vs. PS4 Pro which isn't that much more powerful than a PS4, more for just 4k/HDR
