    Re: Xbox One

Regarding the games, that is all true but one game can be a difference maker for some folks. I am a bit torn because there aren't many compelling games for me to get a Scorpio but once I saw that racing shot of Forza...

You guys know how people buy the Switch just for Zelda and the Pro just for The Show? Well Forza may be that way for me for Scorpio.

Am I off base here or was the Xbox one 500 at launch? I swear I remember paying around that much day 1.

I don't even have a 4K tv yet so this won't be on my radar for a while. Especially at a high price.

Xbox1 was $499 out the gate, I imagine this will be as well.

                  Re: Xbox One

Yeah, will probably be $500. Xbox One with Kinect at $500 sold pretty well for those six months that it was available before Kinect was removed. Scorpio will sell decently at that price and be in line with PS4 Pro. At $400 though, I think that it sells a lot more and my prediction is still $400. This isn't Nintendo we're talking about here. It's Microsoft and they will easily take a bigger loss if it means that they can sell more Scorpio consoles.

At $500, im still buying Scorpio since trading in the Xbox One Slim should give me at least $100 so why not?

Games wise, the release date for State of Decay 2 will be announced at E3 and im definitely expecting an October release date. This and multi-platform games will make this an easy decision for me.

Everyone always talks about Microsoft's lack of exclusives or it's just Halo/Gears/Forza over and over yet I don't see anyone complaining about Nintendo which has given you Mario and Zelda for 30 freaking years and don't give you any new IP's either and like Microsoft, the new IP's they do give you don't exactly hit.

With all of that said, I still hate mid-gen consoles. While Scorpio makes more sense for Microsoft than Pro does for Sony, I still think that Microsoft should have waited until 2018 to release Scorpio with a far better CPU, make it fully backwards compatible with all Xbox One games and simply get away from the "One" brand name and move forward.

Regardless of how Scorpio plays out, I still see Sony as number one, Microsoft as number two and Nintendo as a distant number three. Unless Sony screws up big time with PS5, I don't see any of this changing any time soon.

Spec wise, im definitely impressed with how Microsoft integrated everything into this one console. Honestly, the only thing missing is a far superior CPU but that's for Scorpio Two. LOL.

If the "scorpio" can fufill on its promise (by what the digital foundry guys "take on it" is) to be able to have 4k renders down to 1080p displays NATURALLY without ever any effort ...then that's a major plus for buying one...

Does this mean devs can just make games for Scorpio that will also play on Xbox one without any other extra work from the devs? Is that possible?

I personally don't think the PS4 Pro did that much more, so can understand why it'd have slow sales. No 4k Bluray player, a bit better graphics but not killer. Scorpio would be native 4k, but still a niche market. MS is hoping that all the spec heads who killed the One before will jump on I think.
I like the tech behind it, I'm just trying to understand Microsoft's motives (this question includes Sony, as well, because they did the same with the Pro only with less horsepower).

If this system sells even 2 million units, and to me that seems like a big if based on how the Pro has sold and the possible $500 price point, what is the end game? This is an easier question to answer if Microsoft is making a profit on each console, but you'd almost have to expect them to be taking losses as most modern manufacturers have been doing the last couple generations. Also consider this probably isn't a huge net increase in their home installation base, as a good portion of the sales are individuals trading in older models of the same system.

I'm just trying to understand MS and Sony's line of thought in making these. To me the older "slim" versions of the systems made more sense as a mid-generation refresh, because they certainly cost less to produce and capitalized on lag purchasers with a lower price point. Now we seem to be going backwards with these systems adding better tech and going up in price, instead.

If this is merely an attempt by Microsoft to get some of their momentum back, that would be positive momentum heading into the next generation of console releases, I could certainly understand that, but I still struggle with the "why" when they're taking a hit on the consoles with such low sales targets.

Of course I could be wrong and perhaps Microsoft specifically has loftier goals with the Scorpio, I just think they would do better to devote these resources to the next gen system instead. Of course if the Scorpio is going to get its own software after all, then most of my points are moot.

There's no take on it. DF updated the article and were told by Microsoft that super-sampling is handled at a system level. No extra work required. It just works out of the box for any Scorpio game that runs at higher resolution.

So devs can just make a game catering to scorpios specs and it will automatically work on Xbox one? That's impressive.

This thing was always a day one purchase...But this definitely confirmed whatever few doubts I may have had. I think it's pretty clear that MS is going to stay true to their word and do away with console generations. This is leaps and bounds better than the XB1 and PS4 and quite a bit more powerful than even the Pro. I for one, am quite happy with these console refreshes.
