Re: Xbox One
You're right though...I guess I'd just argue that to truly be functional a console should be online nowadays. We're just discussing a fine line...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
Really they should have just done it with a key. You would have to be online to register the key to your account, then go online to remove it from your account to be able to trade/sell/lend the key elsewhere. Seems that would have been the better choice. Similar to the Switch now with account usage...if you want to log in on another to download and play your games, you first have to remember to disable your account on the previous.
It seems they were trying to cater towards ease of trading in, where you dont have to remember to remove it from your account. Or maybe they figured it was easier to say it is an online console rather than saying you must be online before playing a new game. Not sure why exactly other than the fact that a lot (most?) of consoles are constantly connected online anyways.Comment

Re: Xbox One
So if I desire to play Crackdown 3 with the destruction can I simply go online and make a multiplayer game and then just set it to private like someone suggested?Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Xbox One
I agree 100%. The only people who really should worry about that, or oppose that, are people who are on metered connections or live in desolate places like West Virginia where it's difficult to get a decent ISP.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Xbox One
As for Crackdown 3. Watching a live stream. Looks fun as hell. Graphically it's dated, but it looks like it's a really fun game. I'm getting it. Here's the twitch channel for the livestream

It's good it looks fun though but this is one less game to really try to sell Xbox One X which is a shame.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Xbox One
The online check was for those who sell/trade the game...trade the game in, get your money, done. Console at home would still work as is until the next mandatory check, sees you no longer own the game, removes access from the console.

A key or something like you mention would have been great...Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Xbox One
You need to get constant updates/patches, games like Destiny are always online, etc....
I get the point, and I feel there should be the ability that lets you play offline, but honestly you'd have a pretty horrible experience never getting day one game patches and things if you're always offline.
We can agree to disagree though....
EVERY game that has a single player story campaign or allows you to play solo (ala The Division and For Honor) should allow you to play off-line with you obviously not being able to access the online portion of the game (ala The Dark Zone in The Division).
Excluding the two Ubisoft games I mentioned above, I have played and completed 40 other games this generation off-line and have had an excellent experience with each and every game. Whether or not each and every one of those games was excellent is a different story but has nothing to do with being or not being connected online.
Being required to be connected online to play a game is a restriction and one that shouldn't exist unless the game itself is obviously an online multi-player game like Overwatch for example.
The capability to connect online if/when needed is good. Being required or restricted is bad.
Publishers should always delay their games if the developer needs more time but the publishers rarely if ever do because they know that regardless, those who want to play the game and don't want to wait will still buy the game.
I don't understand your argument of a console having to be online in order to be truly functional. Both my consoles function 100% and im off-line 95% of that time.
The CAPABILITY to go online with the console nowadays is something I can easily agree on but to always be online, not at all.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I don't take the console to the modem. I have an Ethernet cable connected to each console and simply connect it to the modem which is literally ten feet away from where the consoles are. It's just me. Why would I need a router (hate wireless by the way) and have everything connected at all times if it's just me? I can see if you have a bunch of kids and stuff going on but for someone like me, it would make no sense.Comment

Re: Xbox One
Which is fine if that works for you, but understand you are by far in the minority. It's just me and the gf in my house...4 xbox one, 2 ps4, 2 switch, wii u, 360 and ps3, 4 tv's, 2 gaming pc, 2 surface pro, nest thermostat, security cameras, 2 phones, kindle. I know I'm likely a minority w that many devices but I'm far closer to the majority than you are.
If you can't see the benefit to having multiple devices connected at all times, especially the consoles in this day with the popularity of streaming movies, twitch, YouTube, etc, then I don't know what to tell you. When people were against the always online, it was mainly what if internet goes out? What about military overseas? What about those in remote locations with no internet? Those that can't afford it? Im sure the people in those groups saying how it sucks would have been quite annoyed when someone jumps in saying yeah it sucks, i just dont feel there is any reason to even though I can!Comment

Of course, im most likely older than you and growing up, I was taught not to waste anything like food or keep lights on when there's no reason for them to be on. If im not using something or in a certain room, I turn it off.
Everyone should just do what works best for them. That's what I do.
As for consoles, the difference is that with all of your devices, you still have the option of turning everything off if you wanted to. If a console is requiring you to always be connected online, then that's taking away options and choices for the person who wants that console which as the past has proven, that's not exactly the best decision in regards to getting people to buy your console.Comment
