This gen I've been leaning in a bit more with the PS4 than the XB1, but I have to say I like what Microsoft is doing. I didn't even know that I (pretty sure it was something my son did...) was a member of the Preview club or whatever it's called. Anyway, they added keyboard and mouse support. I was surprised how easy it was just using an old Dell keyboard and mouse. It not something I'll use but my son thinks its the coolest thing ever. I think his favorite Fortnite Youtuber plays with a keyboard and mouse, so now he's doing it. It's little things that add up. I also read that Microsoft purchased some studios to develop games thatll likely come next gen. I think they're in a good space heading into the future.

Hot on the heels of Sony opting out, we have MS rumors for E3:

        - Xbox One w/ no disc
        - Disc-to-digital program w/ participating retailers for gamers to trade in titles for digital copies
        - Revised One S (lower manufacturing cost) in 2019

Microsoft is working on a disc-less version of the Xbox One S for release next year and the company will also offer a disc-to-digital trade-in program.

Given the option I'd prefer a console w/ a disc drive, but can see the appeal and honestly can't tell you the last time we put a disc in ours. Would be nice to take advantage of physical deals I'd normally pass on because we prefer digital.

Interesting. Makes sense to do bullet No. 2 if you're going to try out a digital-only console.

Not sure how a no disc drive XB1 would work with backwards compatibility, though.

No reason it wouldn't work the same. Take it to a retailer, swap it for a digital entitlement I'd expect. It's then in your library indefinitely, playable on current and future Xbox consoles.

A fun wrinkle there would be if they were able to let us play those on Windows too at some point.

We rarely use the disc drive, though in the living room we have a bunch of Ninja Turtles DVDs my son does play. In the bedroom the drive is wonked (base Xbox one this happens a lot apparently), but we'd only use the drive for redbox, and I have a bluray player i can pull in quick for that.

I'd really like the disc to digital aspect, would mean in theory we could take advantage of the disc based sales on games yet still get them digital. If I'm getting something on a big sale then I'd be more likely to get more games.

Standby mode has NEVER worked correctly for me on my original X1 or my X1X. It's a wasted feature that does not work in my opinion. I can go in standby mode two times and then I will have to do a full shut down to get everything to work correctly. Never have this problem on my PS4.

It’s been fine for years for me. This current problem is new for me and seems to happen once or twice a week. I’m hoping it’s preview program related.

I believe it has to do with the private network ip renewal and possibly something to do with uPnP on the router. Xbox has always been a bit more picky than PS ever has been going back to PS3 and 360.

I had the issue on an old linksys router I had 3 years ago or so. I got the Netgear X4S router in early 2016 and it cut down - it would happen to one of my X1's every few days or so rather than every day. I recently got the Negear Orbi about 2 months ago and it has yet to happen to any of my consoles (currently have 5 connected in the house.)

Aside from getting a new router, you can try to increase your IP lease time in your router settings, or try giving the console a static IP. Just guessing here though, it might not help you at all.

Standby mode has worked perfectly for me. The only issues are certain games that crap out because they lose connection with inactivity. Madden used to screw this up, but it a least let’s me avoid start-up, even if it doesn’t hold its connection.

That would be awesome...especially if they can keep Hitman as fresh as it is (less engine updates, more yearly/regular releases, probably upgrade engine over time). That would be great on Game Pass, plus maybe give them another game to see what they can do.

*Edit* Just read how Hitman 2 isn't selling as amazing as they'd like, and obviously the lack of cut scenes means they don't have a lot of money....so this tends to make more and more sense.

Do we think the "physical game trade in at stores" rumor is possible still? It's obviously similar to what they wanted at the start of this generation...Could it be feasible by them?

I would love to be able to get a game on sale and then just trade it in for a physical copy. It negates the issue regarding digital sales. You lose out on trading it back in later, but I can deal with that if I'm getting games for 20-30 regularly. Or even 20% off getting something new from Amazon pre-release (RDR2 or something big)...

Not sure if I'd really want to pull the trigger on a discless system, but it's pretty much where I'm at now (one of my 2 systems has a disc error anyways and haven't felt like seeing if I can sneak it past Gamestop lol).
Only thing i'd be missing was a blu-ray player, but I suppose I could just use the one I have when we need it (downstairs the kids play DVDs somewhat often).

I was able to hold off on all the BF bundles...was tempting but I don't have the cash (I mean I could, but don't NEED anything)....Will be interesting to see when the next upgrade comes out and what is going on....or will a Xbox One X be a great purchase on sale next year.

It will happen. Just don't know if it will be as soon as rumored. Need a couple big retail partners (like Walmart who already does it w/ movies for their Vudu service). Could be Gamestop too, who was 'excited' about the original Xbox vision before it was nerfed.

Honestly not sure how much I'd use it. A bit less of a console gamer these days.
