What do you mean by AMD being more future proof?

I mean obviously I know what it means, I'm just not sure in what sense you mean it?

They generally have more raw power and RAM at a given price point, so it's easier to move forward with one. That's what I'd guess he means.

          What DieHardYankee said, plus...

The new AMD cards are primarily built with DX12 in mind, while the 1060 specifically was built for DX11. Also, you can't SLI the 1060; however, you can CrossFire the RX480.

That's what I mean by "future proof".

Yup I have a buddy that does this all the time. He starts playing say H1Z1 Kotk and when he is done, will just alt tab to his second monitor leaving the game running. 2 days later and its still up

The one thing we could give credit to AMD for is that their drivers mature very well with their older cards vs. NVIDIA cards where with each new gen their older cards take a hit in driver performance. Like Doug said, NVIDIA is always the safer bet and why I stick with them for my GPU.

So I have been saving up for a new PC, I work out of town quite a bit and I wanted a PC that would be easy to travel with but also be powerful enough to play on my 65'' 4k TV. Its obviously a expensive proposition but I've been working out of town a lot and banking as many expense checks as I can ($.554 a mile, sorry car).

I have done my research and I think instead of building a PC, I am going to buy one. I just dont feel comfortable enough to sink $2k into a PC that is liquid cooled and break it while I am traveling. So I am going to get a Falcon NW Tiki PC.

Its honestly something I have always wanted, they are the gold standard for custom built PCs. I was going to wait until I had all the money saved up to buy one but I think I will end up pulling the trigger around November after I get married.

If I buy a GPU that uses a 1x8-pin power connector, can I use a 6-pin to Dual 8(6+2)-pin cable to connect the GPU to my PSU? My PSU only has a 6-pin connector leaving it, which is why I ask. If anyone cares, my PSU is a Seasonic M12II (old model / partially modular) and GPU is MSI Gaming X 1060.

                    Thanks.

I probably wouldn't. It might work out, but I'd be concerned moving forward. I'd probably just spend the extra cash upgrading the power supply to protect your video card investment

$2500 for a 16GB i7 and a GTX 1060? Yeah, that's expensive. It's liquid cooled as well. Couldn't you break that one as well? Is there insurance or am I missing something?

You don't need to build a PC with liquid cooling especially if you aren't overclocking.

Any PC can be broken if you travel with it, don't matter who builds it. Honestly if you travel a lot......buy a gaming laptop instead. That mini tower weighs 17 pounds......A lot of mid range non gaming laptops have HDMI out so gaming laptops definitely will have it as well.

Certainly agree with this. $2500 for that computer is about $1000 to $1500 to much. There is little to zero need with any form of liquid cooling as well. Enthusiasts do much like some people "pimp their ride" Completely optional and very unnecessary. If you are not overclocking, there is zero need in water cooling. A $20 aftermarket heatsink would be more than ample and that literally takes about 5 mins to install.

                            Edit....

And looking now more at the specs on their website, you would probably need to be upgrading your power supply right off the bat to get a good video card. If you are building / buying a computer right now, a 1060 card is basically an entry level video card. If you are wanting to push 4k graphics, you would need a 1070 at very minimum and that would be with many options turned down, or a 1080..which is much more serviceable, but still has issues with some games at 4k. If you are fine with playing your games in 1080p, while just using it one your 4k TV...then a 1060 would be just fine.

Yea that works fine. Some people use the 6+2, some use an 8pin, and then some use 2x4pins. All dependent on your power supply, but it works fine.

I have built 3 desktops so building one is something I would generally do but the PC I am looking at is about the same size as a Xbox one and something that small is not something I would be comfortable building. I also talked with FNW and said internal damage from travel would be covered under their 3 year warranty as long as it obviously wasn't destroyed on purpose. I'm the only one who handles my bags when I travel so I'm not worried about it.

More importantly I have the money and it's something I've always wanted.
