Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

64 players is the most I've seen on a single server. I love 64-man matches, but it's tough to find one that's not laggy, so I usually stick with 32-man servers as a compromise. Anything smaller than 32 and the maps just feel empty. They are big and have lots of different paths. Though if you play the deathmatch modes instead of team objective mode, they shrink the maps down to proper size to accommodate. Just don't play objective mode on anything less than 32.

Just filter servers by < 50 ping and you'll be good. There are a lot of laggy servers out there, but once you add a few good ones to your favorites list, you'll do fine.

Visually, it's a pretty brutal game. There are tons of decapitations and dismemberments. I have it running on mostly low/medium settings, so it's hard for me to say how good the graphics and animations are overall. I am more concerned about getting 40-60 frames per second, which it will do for me with graphical effects toned down.

Ahem, Dota 2 disagrees but I definitely need to check out Chivalry. Big time!

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

I found a 64-man server tonight in Chicago that was cycling through every game mode and finally played King of the Hill for the first time with 64 men. It is madness with that many people all focused on one small patch of land. The team objective modes are also amazing with 64 people.

I also finally unlocked all the melee weapons, so all I have left now before the update rolls out is to play the wussy archer class. Time to turn in my man card for the glory of unlocking all of Agatha's secrets.

The free update is supposed to hit sometime in January:

          - Duel Mode, allowing you to continually fight 1 on 1 without risk of interruption

          - New weapons, including the Flail and Polehammer featured in the image above

          - New Maps, including the Team Objective map Citadel pictured above and several maps for the new Duel mode

          - Capture the Flag Mode

          - Optimization improvements

          - Game balance adjustments

          - Blood Decals painting to the ground when a player is struck

          - Ragdoll length slider

          - Class limits server options

And of course TONS of bugfixes and polish work to the game overall. All of this is coming to you completely free in January so stay tuned for more details on the update and brush up on your dueling skills!

Thinking about picking up a couple cheap games. What are your thoughts on Fable and Rome: Total War? I have Fable for Xbox, but never finished it. I figure there is probably some mods or something making it better on PC. I love games like Red Alert and StarCraft so I assume Total War is right up my alley as well.

              2 question:

              1) Does anyone play Dead Island anymore? Thinking of picking up the GOTY edition.

              2) Someone compare Torchlight 2 to Diablo 3 for me. I enjoy Diablo 3 a lot.

If you enjoy Diablo you should love everything about Torchlight.
This is a great comparison that shows Torchlight's real strengths and a lot of areas where Diablo was a letdown.

Pets alone make it hard to go back to Diablo.

I just started trying out this modded texture update for TL2. It changes to cartoony graphics to more of a Diablo 2 type look. It is fantastic.

I'm really starting to understand what people mean about these sales! My backlog is so big already so I'm trying not to buy anything else, but KOTOR, Total War, Torchlight, and a couple others have really tempted me.

I did go ahead and pick up the first Fable when it was on sale, just because that's a game that I've always meant to go back and beat. Plus it looks like there is quite a few mods for it out there as well.

Same here. Just can not let some of these deals go. I've hit amazon and STEAM up hard these past few weeks. I'm eventually upgrading HDD to a much bigger one also. Until then (and I still have plenty of space right now) when I get tight I'll just delete some.
Currently have Metro 2033 and KOTOR 1 and 2 in my cart.. still browsing.

If anyone buys this, I HIGHLY recommend you download and install The Sith Lords Restoration Project (TSLRP) before playing the game. The mod takes content that was never released and finishes it. Also, there is a program out there to allow for widescreen resolutions.

Second this I did my first play through of kotor 2 with tslrcm (beat it many time without it) and it make the game alot better and makes a lot more sense also. Absolutely essential to have.

I've never played it, but I did look into...the reviews for Lucious are awful all over the interwebz.

I'm thinking about getting the first Torchlight for $3.49. Never played Diablo, but the TL1 demo was kinda fun. Is the game pretty deep? Or will I be done with it after a few hours?
