Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

Gearing up for the holiday season. Be sure to join the Be Strong Resist Group (BSRE) on Steam!
For all of those who want to join us in our Quest of not buying games until the Dec. 2013 Holiday. This group is sort of the anonymous Gamers movement for gamers who don't want to by games for a year. Basically there are no rules, so don't worry, you won't get kicked out because you bought a game. But, there are Goals, described as followed. Don't buy a game between the 5th Jan 2013 and whenever the December Holiday Sale starts! We'll try hard and help each other to achieve that goal. Glorious Underdogs

Out of curiosity...if I wanted to build or buy a decent gaming rig what am I looking at $$$ wise?

I mean I'm not looking for the ultra top line stuff...just something that can run most if not all current PC games and not be a mess.

I'm just a complete dolt when it comes to this stuff lol...

With Windows included you're probably looking at 700-900ish. Of course you just buy yourself flexibility and more performance as the cost rises.

Yeah I mean I'm not looking for anything extravagant...just something that'll run games like the Total War series, DayZ and ArmA, Gone Home, etc.

I'm completely illiterate when it comes to the guts and ins and outs of a PC so I'm clueless...hell I dunno I might even be able to upgrade my run of the mill PC...?

I mean it doesn't even have to be a "gaming rig" persay...just a decent PC that can handle games.

I gave in tonight and picked up a gtx780 ftw edition. As much as I wanted to hold off until the 800 series, the price drop and the November gaming bundle I couldn't resist my Holiday present to myself. It included all games I was going to pickup eventually, Batman, AC4 and Splinter Cell.

                Hopefully Newegg delivers early.

PC gaming is an addictive thing.

Newegg delivered my Christmas present early. It's going to be fun benchmarking from a 570 to a 780.

The free games came on three cards with the DL codes stapled to the receipt. I was hoping it to be a little more fun, but like Dr. Hammond I can see nvidia saying "spared no expense."

I can't wait to install it. 4 days of gaming bliss this weekend.

Broke down today and bought a Razer Edge with the i7, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB HD. It has a GT 640M LE Graphics card.

This isn't going to be my main gaming platform, I have a gaming laptop at home that I use, but it'll replace my iPad for internet/email/Netflix and be able to play PC games via Steam at Medium settings or so. Can't wait to get it all set up.

                              Bioshock Triple Packs (1 + 2 + Infinite) for only $14.99 - until 12/03/13

Really tempted to jump on this deal but I may wait for Steam's own sale.
