Join one of the many discords that have people and bots refreshing all sites constantly. That's how I was able to snag one last week, they ping the entire server and at that point you just gotta hope luck is on your side and you can get through checkout without server issues.

Also, if you have twitter, @EVGA_JacobF is a good person to follow. I was able to snag my Evga 3080 right after he tweeted out that stock was going up on the Evga store. He has also been very transparent regarding EVGA stock and restock

Even though Red Dead is not optimized to this day, the 10700k at stock settings combined with the 3080 had no problems playing it at 1440p withe everything, but AA maxed out. Played around online for maybe half an hour last night and it never dipped below the low 50;s the entire time. Maybe in Saint Denis it would lower into the 40's, but I was impressed that with it practically maxed out it played that well.

This build is gonna be fun.

I was thinking about the same CPU/GPU combo later this year. Waiting for the SUGO 14 ITX case to be available right now.

I have the same xc3 card as you. I was debating going for the one without a backplate and ordering one of those custom backplates that people make

This didn't work unfortunately. It is 1 code redemption per hardware. Guess I'll have to hang onto it until they stop bundling Watch Dogs with 3080s and try giving it away.

I’ve never been a PC gamer, but with Madden now on PC, and The Show hopefully coming to PC, I may get into it soon.

That being said, I’m very much a rookie to the gaming PC world. Trying to read up on the new 3-series NVIDIA cards, though. I have a LG CX OLED. Would the new 3080 card allow me to run 4K resolution smoothly?

Any recommendations on that front (or any other) for someone hoping to game at 4K?

Looking around the internet too at rigs that people recommend <$2k using the 3080, SSDs, liquid cooling, etc., but always appreciate input from folks on here too.

                    Gaming only? i7-10700k or i5-10600k

Multi tasking/streaming/rendering + gaming? Wait for the new AMD chips or grab a Ryzen 9 3900x

Since the games you are focused on are still 6 months out I would hold off on buying anything if you can.

Intel Tiger Lake chips are due out soon which they claim offer a significant boost offer their current lineup and AMD has long promised a revolutionary step with their next series of chips.

I assume those long promised AMD chips are the 5-series that were introduced today? What do you guys think as it relates to next-gen level gaming?

Generally speaking, are there any strong beliefs on Intel v AMD being the better chips? Especially as they pair with the new NVIDIA 3-series cards.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

I stated the wrong thing previously. The Intel Tiger Lake chips that were recently unveiled are not their desktop chips. Their rocket lake chips are the next desktop chips which have been announced but not yet unveiled (still expected in early 21)

Speaking generally they're shouldn't be any issues with compatability whether it's amd/nvidea or intel/nvidia

Honestly there probably won't be a noticeable differences whether you go amd or intel. Intel has in the past offered better gaming performance as they tend to have higher clock speed, but thats only at the top end of chips. I'm kind of expecting that to continue, but thats just my personal guess.

At the mid range things get much more murky with a lot of benchmarks giving the slight edge to amd. It's if course too early to say who will win the next round, but my prediction is that it won't really matter which brand you go with. Price to performance will probably differ a bit (amd is usually the winner there) , but the bottom line results should be very competitive whichever you choose.
