I've been going nuts w/ monitors lately. Got a 32" LG 1440p gaming monitor to replace a 2k productivity-class Samsung of the same size I had about my Odyssey G9 (wanted matching resolutions). Now I've got a new LG 48" 120hz monitor coming sometime soon (Insider program) and debating selling the G9 or mounting it to the wall. Not sure a curved and flat monitor would look all that great on top of each other on the same wall though.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
I know I'll talk myself out of doing it, but the idea of building a separate PC in my room strictly for VR with 4 cameras, one in each corner of the room, sounds so convenient.
I say convenient, but my current setup isn't even that inconvenient. All I have to do is unplug my mouse pad and xbox controller adapter, plug in my two cameras that are unplugged, then unplug one monitor and plug the headset into the HDMI slot.
That takes all of 15 seconds and I'm ready to go. So, I know it is a waste of money to build a PC strictly to make that setup even easier. Has anyone else had that idea cross their mind?
What I would be better of spending money on is one more camera to have 4, doing the 4 corner setup, getting a USB hub so my cameras remain plugged in at all times, and then getting a headset cable extender and some sort of track system on the ceiling so that the wire is always going up out of the headset into the track system so I can move around the room and not have the cable be near my feet. I'm sure that's actually doable, but I would need to look into it.
The more I can physically move with my headset, the more I can play. If I'm stuck using the joysticks to turn and whatnot, then my sessions can't last as long as I eventually get a small headache.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Anyone here use a soundbar with their setup? A brief rundown of my setup is that I have an L-shaped desk with 3 monitors mounted. My furthest right monitor has both my PC and my Xbox Series S connected to it so I can toggle back and forth between inputs depending on what I play.
While the monitors themselves are all great, they all have the typical bad quality speakers which is fine when I PC game since I use my headset. However, when using the Series S, the audio quality is just poor. I'm thinking of going with a soundbar strictly for my Series S, but don't have much experience with them as I have none in my house, so I don't know if it would be a good solution to my issue or not.
I want to make sure that I'm not sitting too close to the thing or whatever. I am sure others here have some experience with soundbars and I was hoping to get some guidance even if it is an alternative solution.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Any recommendations on a budget ultrawide?
I think given the amount of space I have to work with, a 34” UW is probably my size limit.
Also, do most game support UW resolutions these days? I hadn’t even considered one until I saw Blzer talking about one the other day, and it really put the bug in me.

I have the Sound Blaster Katana X soundbar with subwoofer and have been using it about two years. It works great, has RGB light as well you can program, takes up very little space under my monitor and has a nice little remote. I'd definitely recommend it, it's very loud, I don't think I've ever turned it up to max, and crystal clear sound.Anyone here use a soundbar with their setup? Gigabyte makes a nice solid 34 uw for 350 bucks. I have a Xiaomi one that's 144hz 1ms reponse time and its been fantastic and its under 400. I'm thinking you guys don't have Xiaomi stuff for sale in the states as much though.
A ton of games use ultra wide, all the triple A titles do. Most of the adventure, FPS, 3rd person shooter work. I even have played Madden and Nba 2k ultra wide and its awesome. I do play my FPS on my 27 inch over my ultra wide though because i think i'm seeing too much with ultra wide.Comment

Yes i have used soundbars a lot on my desk setups. Not my current one but its really nice to have right in front of you for emersion. It does take a lot of real estate on the desk so if you have the space, its a great option. The music sounds amazing, and obivously everything you'll watch will have quality sound.Anyone here use a soundbar with their setup? Yeah, I think the curved Gigabyte is the leader in the clubhouse right now.
I didn’t even think about sports games on an ultrawide… that sounds pretty sweet.

Madden in particular is amazing on my 38" Alienware widescreen, ditto for NBA and FIFA, they were all made for widescreen, now we just need to get the next-gen game versions!Yeah, I think the curved Gigabyte is the leader in the clubhouse right now.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Pretty cool little RTS game called Farthest Frontiers released today in early access for $29 for the PC on Steam. I played for an hour at lunch and found the game really fun, looks great, pretty easy to learn and intuitive controls. I think this one could be a real fun game for folks who enjoy this type of game
I especially love the aesthetics in this game.. they capture a real woodland/outdoor vibe a lot better than most games of this genre and the seasons changing is just so cool...

Fifa will be the next gen version this year. Madden will not be. I am not sure NBA has been confirmed one way or the other yet.

One more monitor question for you guys.
Is it worth prioritizing native g-sync support over a monitor that is only certified to be ‘g-sync compatible’?
My current 1080p monitor has native g-sync, and it works great in that regard, but it’s the only gaming monitor I’ve ever owned.
Anything in particular I would need to look out for?
Thanks

I don't think it matters nowadays as long as its compatible and on NVidia's approved list.Comment
