I don't get this. On the box it says 500GB, but when I go to see how much total and available space left, it says that the total is 407GB. What am I missing here?

Yeah its the exactly what every single cell phone, tablet, game system, pc, etc and so on suffers from after installing an Operating System. These things take space, said hard-drive space.

I thought it might be it, but I thought it would indicate this. I wish it said so in the breakdown, or at least I don't see it. That's almost 20% of the hard drive.

I hear ya. It's sad and a bit more overlooked on the large size of the Ps4's hard-drive. Less so on phones... Different conversation I know but same concept. Some folks are taking Apple to court over it.

Unfortunately though we need the software for the hardware. Kind of at their mercy.

Its just as much the usable space. You don't have 500gb available on a clean formatted drive even before adding PS4 software and any disk space reserved for other OS operations. It's probably like 475 or 465gb of usable space. Just got home with the kids or I'd find you an actual technical answer.

Yeah it takes like 93GB to operate witch sucks because that Is a lot. I never would have thought it would take that much when I got the system. I thought the operation system would take like 30 or something but not 93GB.

Yeah it takes like 93GB to operate witch sucks because that Is a lot. I never would have thought it would take that much when I got the system. I thought the operation system would take like 30 or something but not 93GB.

I think the OS takes up 58 GB because 500 GB isn't really 500 GB.

Allows you to use regular hard drives rather than be restricted to laptop drives that are typically smaller capacity and slower outside of SSDs.

I think the OS takes up 58 GB because 500 GB isn't really 500 GB.

But if that was the cause then there would be 442 GB left before you have done any thing and there isn't there is 407GB

That's because your hardrive isn't really 500GB. It's around 466GB.

Oh so is this really worth it though? I mean I think the biggest hard drive you can get fit into a ps4 is 2TB right now but if you want I am sure bigger hard drives will come out and they will become cheaper over time. If you get this right now you are going to be paying what ever this thing cost plus the price for a bigger hard drive witch is going to cost more then it will in the furtchure when you may not need something like this and when the cost for hard drives or cheaper.
