    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Every rumor has said the next Xbox GPU is GCN, with some hints at possibly being GCN2.

I'm interested to know if ROPs are in the ESRAM (like the eDRAM on 360). If not, and unless it's some radically new architecture, that would be a big indicator to me that the two aren't targeting the same ballpark in terms of power. Having to use that slow RAM as a framebuffer would be terrible. Kinect 2 may very well be eating up a lot the budget.

      VGLeaks, Oribis Unveiled

      LIVERPOOL SOC

Custom implementation of AMD Fusion APU Arquitecture (Accelerated Processing Unit)
Provides good performance with low power consumtion
      Integrated CPU and GPU
Considerably bigger and more powerful than AMD’s other APUs

      PU:

Orbis contains eight Jaguar cores at 1.6 Ghz, arranged as two “clusters”
Each cluster contains 4 cores and a shared 2MB L2 cache
256-bit SIMD operations, 128-bit SIMD ALU
SSE up to SSE4, as well as Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX)
      One hardware thread per core
Decodes, executes and retires at up to two intructions/cycle
      Out of order execution
      Per-core dedicated L1-I and L1-D cache (32Kb each)
Two pipes per core yield 12,8 GFlops performance
      102.4 GFlops for system

      GPU:

GPU is based on AMD’s “R10XX” (Southern Islands) architecture
      DirectX 11.1+ feature set
Liverpool is an enhanced version of the architecture
      18 Compute Units (CUs)
      Hardware balanced at 14 CUs
      Shared 512 KB of read/write L2 cache
      800 Mhz
      1.843 Tflops, 922 GigaOps/s
      Dual shader engines
      18 texture units
      8 Render backends

      Memory:

      4 GB unified system memory, 176 GB/s
      3.5 available to games (estimate)

      Storage:

      - High speed Blu-ray drive

single layer (25 GB) or dual layer (50 GB) discs
      Partial constant angular velocity (PCAV)
      Outer half of disc 6x (27 MB/s)
Inner half varies, 3.3x to 6x

      - Internal mass storage

One SKU at launch: 500 GB HDD
There may also be a Flash drive SKU in the future

      Networking:

      1 Gb/s Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WIFI, and Bluetooth

      Peripherals:

      Evolved Dualshock controller
      Dual Camera
      Move controller

      Extra:

      Audio Processor (ACP)
Video encode and decode (VCE/UVD) units
      Display ScanOut Engine (DCE)
      Zlib Decompression Hardware

        Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Balanced at 14 CUs would put it closer to Durango (12 CUs).

        About 14 + 4 balance:

        - 4 additional CUs (410 Gflops) “extra” ALU as resource for compute

        - Minor boost if used for rendering
There has to be something special about these 4 extra CUs, because why split them off instead of just going with 18 CUs? Are they more optimized for AI, physics, and animation? That would be pretty sweet if so.

Guys you all do realize all the leaks are just speculation at this point..these sites at this point are trying to hype us up big time right now with both system...nothing at all has been confirmed from Sony or MS...I'm saying these leaks can be real,,,but until I see something straight from Sony themselves... I'm still enjoying this gen so I'm going to put those so called leaks to bed for me right now.

I think that everyone realizes that this is all speculation and is fun reading about to see where both MSFT and Sony go next go around. I get intrigued by specs and looking at architecture being so close, we finally might get good multi console titles across both platforms vs. one not having high capacity medium or another too hard to program for.

I am still enjoying this gen and my goal is to really wait it out after both come out to see what will be offered. I'm not interested in spending $500+ again this time, unless there is some subscription based model which would not be a bad thing. For now I am a bit content with current gen and have been using my PC quite a bit more the last week which already surpasses consoles now and possibly a part of next gen.

There is no harm in talking about speculation and specs.

I'm still enjoying this gen too, but I'm also excited for the future. People on here know to take these rumors with a pinch of salt, but there's nothing wrong with speculating and discussing them ourselves; this is a discussion forum after all.

Same here. The new systems could come out tomorrow and my current systems would be gone in a heartbeat.

I can't wait to see what both will have to offer and even though I'm a bit content with current gen, in no way am I against having new tech. This gen to me has gone on a bit too long. I hope to have willpower to wait a few months after these release to see how both pan out before choosing one. I am leaning towards Oribis due to being fully invested with friends list, trophies, digital content, etc but its fair game if we see something better from MSFT.
