Agree but doubt that ever happens. In most cases now even getting the digital version is the same price as disk version (At least the last time I paid attention to it)
If they did lower the prices that would certainly help those that trade in games to offset the 60.00 costs.
That's why waiting a while and grabbing STEAM etc.. versions at a lot better price is very attractive.

The only reason I'd ever consider a PS4 is when/If I need to play the Show.

Heck I don't even game online anymore except for XBOX Madden. I very rarely buy at release anymore as eventually I can grab at 1/2 or lower prices.
Bottom line for me is I don't game nearly as much as I used to so PC only would be just fine, if I decided to go that route.
I hear ya, I don't game that much either, I game my most on my vita, if the games I want show up ok HHE vita this year, console gaming maybe over for me as the vita suits my needs perfect, I tried pc gaming, And its not for me, I had a great gaming machine and still was doing my gaming on the console.

Link? and just like the "Sony will do it" stuff on internet, the "Sony won't do it" is also speculation.
Until it releases or Sony themselves say something no one knows for sure. Even gamestop says they won't do it due it "never been proven to work" whatever the heck that means. Has anyone ever tried it before??
In any case there's about a .001 % chance they do.

I'm just as concerned about BC as I am no used games. Well not as concerned but concerned none the less.

I don't really expect this to be much more then a branded pc in a proprietary case, if that.

The cheaper it is the sooner you'd have to buy a new one as PC games advanced.

Yeah, "Sony" hasn't said anything, that's an analyst. This is the company that removed BC the PS3 to force people to buy more PS3 games and said we'd want to work multiple jobs to afford one... common sense doesn't always apply.

We'll see what product they ultimately ship.

If it was made at similar specs to a next gen PS or Xbox then no. All games are made on PCs, this would be a very easy thing to achieve. Not to mention developers would love this platform since there are no royalties

And although I didn't get into it.. didn't they also remove the ability to install/use Lenux after launch also?

                          Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Companies patent technology allllllllll the time so that they own the rights. We're hearing about this because we're gamers, not because it is or isn't going to happen.

There is almost zero chance Sony, MS, etc are going to **** with the biggest gaming retailer in the US (GameStop), along with Gamefly, Redbox, and millions of other rental shops unless they are going to be receiving ASTRONOMICAL kickbacks from developers.

People are jumping the gun on this, and overreacting, the same way kids do in the Madden forums when RGIII's shoelaces aren't tied properly in the latest roster update.

No way this happens, unless all the companies do it.

Newell has already said that the steam box (or whatever they will call it) would run a modified, locked down version of Linux (well, he said it would run a limited version of Linux and people who wanted to do more with the hardware would have the option of buying some other living room PC box).

That's bull****, they removed backwards compatibility because the hardware it was running on was too costly.

According to the Wall Street Journal's paraphrasing of SCEA boss Jack Tretton, the removal of PS2 backward compatibility and other components isn't "dramatically reducing Sony's cost of manufacturing" on Sony's behemoth console.

Instead, the handicapping of the PS3 was part of an effort to "encourage buyers of the entry-level PlayStation 3 to purchase more games designed specifically for the new system."
