Good points. Console gaming itself proves this to be true. They are continuously trying to tap into various markets. It's exactly why they pursue FB, Twitter, Amazon, Netflix etc. on these consoles.

Just because one particular "gamer" doesn't like Angry Birds doesn't mean a million+ won't. The smart-phone industry has gained huge momentum with games and various apps that earn lots of money for each respective company.

But we are being naive if we think smart-phones aren't influencing gaming. Just look at the PS4's new controller and also the Vita. They understand that there is a demographic to be reached and are trying to reach it.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

      ARMA 3 (Preordered) - $32.00

All PC purchases and guess what geeksta "just as much horse power". Consoles are screwing the casual's. There is ZERO reason digital downloads on the consoles should still be at "disk based pricing".

This little list of what I bought recently adds up to $94 bucks, that is little more than ONE game on consoles. Instead I get FOUR high profile games for a fraction of the cost. Now get this, 1) With higher frame rate 2) With higher resolutions and 3) Higher graphic fidelity.

You current launch console cost of these four would be $240. That is $146 bucks I saved. So I can play more of the same games you play, yet for far cheaper.

I highly doubt games go up, BUT if they do. You can count me out the consoles, I'll just stay PC all the way.

This is why I believe pc gaming , iPhones, androids etc.. Are competition for consoles the price of games .

Non of those games are on iPads, iPhones, Androids, or any mobile devices. Youre talking about PC, which the poster did not list the his original post.

And the reason why digital download games are the same price as disk games is because hard disk is by far the most popular selling video game format for consoles now, so the retail stores dictate the prices for all the games and you cant charge less for the same game just because its digital.

No digital games for PC are NOT the same price. They are a heck of a lot cheaper. Heck day 1 they are usually atleast $10 but if you pre-order you can get deals for like $20-30 off day 1.

He did specifically say disc games for consoles and the retail gaming giants like EB Games DO dictate the pricing of digital versus physical.

I seen the memos sent to Sony, MSFT, etc threatening blacklisting if they charged much less for digital. Thus this will not change for consoles until these stores lose the foothold they have. Which will not happen for a very long time, if ever.

EB can't care less about PC games in the grand scheme of things. It shows with the dwindling retail space they allot. And it is Steam that does most of the sales, and other "e-tailers". Not proprietary console maker's stores like Live and PSN Store.

They can't threaten the "PC" like they can console makers.

They know in order to "compete" with PC sales which are mostly digital, they have to provide the same option of digital stores. There is also no used market retail value for PC games due to activation codes. Thus they do not care about shelf space anymore with them. MSFT and Sony control their own store or consoles, and if they offer super cheap digital versions, they will cut into Gamestop's bread and butter, used game profits.

PS4 Friends system, sharing and UI detailed at GDC

Mockups of the new UI were to shown to give people an idea of the new interface. Up-to-date information is to be shown for all games, including DLC, videos, friend recommendations, social links and more.

The Friend system has been improved greatly over PS3, said Norden. As a side note, the social network features the use of true names. A player has two identities on the PS4 -- your user name and your true name. The true name will not be shown by default, but will be visible to those linked via Facebook or other trusted methods. Otherwise, you'll have to mutually agree to show true names (think Google and YouTube).
                    ...
the cap on the friends list has increased for PS4 over PS3, though no specific numbers were given.
"Share" on the PS4 controller uses the system's hardware encoder, which is always recording the last several minutes of gameplay without using any additional system resources An example of a Share menu shows off the fact that you can upload a video to YouTube or Facebook easily -- background uploads can take place after you add a comment.

A new spectating feature lets you stream video of live gameplay, but you can also watch other people play. This is all built into the PS4 hardware, so no work is needed from developers. Users can type comments in real time, and developers can implement those comments via an API in their game.

Remote Play lets you connect your PS Vita to your PS4 via a local network or internet -- the screens are mirrored this time, unlike the PS3 and PSP. No system resources need to be allocated to Remote Play -- it's all built in. Remote Play can be started at any time, and Sony stated that they used code from Gaikai to make this feature work.

For the buttons that the Vita is missing from the PS4 controller, mapping will be supported. Multi-user support is important for the PS4, which is a vast improvement over the PS3. Multiple players can log in, earn trophies and more, just like LittleBigPlanet (finally!).

PS4 controller and cameras fully detailed at GDC

Chris Norden says that the analog sticks are tightened up and are more precise than the PS3. Even the top surface material has changed, though he didn't disclose the material used.

The gyrometer is also more precise than the DualShock 3 or even the Vita, and the touchpad has a tactile click. It sports a 1920 x 900 resolution, and gestures are supported. Sony suggest UI navigation, cursors and more for this pad. Additionally, the light bar for the controller is always on. It replaces port numbers on the top of the DualShock 3, and can be seen by the new camera as an identifier.

A mono speaker is included on the controller as well, streaming audio directly from the PS4. A headset and mic are included in every box. The port at the bottom of the controller is used for voice chat with this mic.

L1 and R1 are digital buttons, as are the action buttons. Inside, there's one "small" and one "large" motor, so expect some "cool effects" according to Sony.

R2 and L2 can now sit on a table so they're not pushed when you lay them down. They're a curved design with a smooth throw and linear output. Interestingly, PS4 controllers can be charged when connected even when the system is in standby mode.
The camera is all about enhancing the PS4 experience. It works in conjunction with the controller, says Norden. There's two cameras inside running at 1280 x 800, 12 bits/pixel, running at 60Hz. It has an 85 degree wide angle view. There's even a 3-axis accelerometer/ tilt sensor inside. A four microphone array will pick up voice and sound, and there's a dedicated port for it -- an exclusive SCE connector (so no PC connectivity it seems!).

HD wide-angle video, PS Move support, and speech recognition are all supported with this camera. Sony suggest using the camera to create easy walkthrough videos, and developers could use it to log people into the game quickly. They like the idea of people leaning in a racing game, or leaning to peek your head around the corner in an FPS.

Camera-only use can be likened to Eyetoy type games -- for PS Move use, it works better than the PS3 camera -- better tracking and sensing were mentioned.

Just as I was whizzing earlier today, I was thinking back about when I suggested that PSN names should have an option for "nicknames." I think that's really crucial, and I'm glad it's coming in some form!

The more info that comes out, the more I want this at release date.

I wanted to wait until 2014 to pick this up but I have that itch.

I think E3 will just put me over the edge.

I just got a PS3, and I tell you what, those controllers stay charged for days maybe even a couple weeks without charging (granted I don't play that much!) Way longer than 360 controllers.

Ha. This is why I use auto-shut down. I leave the console on to charge my controllers when needed and walk away.
