It never fails to entertain me when people argue over video game consoles.

Its really no different than arguing over politics, world views, where to go eat out at, or any other discussion from petty to major. I would think most of us are either bored at work or home and just killing time discussing our differences of opinions with each other. I truly don't see it as that serious, just multiple people saying their point of view on a subject being discussed.

I only take issue with the discussion when it becomes about the people and not what we're discussing because it's a general cop out to the actual topic and adds nothing if not outright derailing and unconstrucrive.

Now I want to touch on the "people in the xbox thread just to tear it down". I have stated numerous times I hated PS3 and was only going "Xbox 720" back over a year ago and that held up until a month or two ago. So I have no bias towards PS4 and would honestly rather have stayed Xbox, but they alone pushed me away by their decisions. So me commenting in that thread falls in line with your comment that I'm only in there to tear it down, YOU ARE DAMN RIGHT!!! I HATE what MS is doing, they are ruining my hobby I enjoy, ruining the console I preferred, and making the industry look bad while doing it. So while I'm just expressing my point of view on the company I once favored, don't be misunderstood it is not from bias-ness towards Sony! It is entirly from the decisions MS has decided to go with and I DON'T LIKE THEIR DIRECTION!

I am with you....when I bought my XBOX (while having PS2) I was totally swept away by it and I was hooked up with online gaming. Got the 360 and played all my gaming time (busy at work and with family) with it, although I was so pissed that my 360 got fried with ROD. Many times I have to shipped it to get another piece of junk. Finally bought another one to answer this annoying ROD.

Anyhow, based on my limited understanding of DRM and a much complicated X1 (from my perspective), I think Im being swayed to switch to PS4.

How the hell am I crying about anything, just trying to start a discussion. You seem to only chime in these days to label people, little else. People with no interest in the Xbox thread other than to tear it down, going crazy about patents and things not even revealed or discussed, but someone tries to start a discussion about what DRM approach Sony might take and I'm crying? Is this going to turn into holy ground like the Wii U and Vita threads?

Nailed it, mestevo it is not like this is the first time you have been called out for showing bias to MS. So I don't get where the whole "I didn't do anything" response comes from. Now, I want to say I'm not attacking you right now, we have had some good conversations and back and forth the last week or so. I'm just saying its not that surprising people have this perception of you by the responses you give.

I'm ok with people having an allegiance to whatever product, but you are preaching like a MSFT employee to no extent. Where, specifically, is this crying? You're apparently the expert on preaching though.

Kotaku prodded Sony about used games, they deferred to the reveal and said they aren't sharing more information at this time.

I think the best compromise is to allow for the online check to be bypassed if that games disc is in the drive. Outside of that I'm not sure how you best access to all games you own at any time instantly.

If Sony's answer is to pass the buck to the publishers for this DRM in a effort to look like the good guy I'm not sure people are going to be happy with that result.

Why would a developer/publisher deserve to be paid for someone buying a used game?

If there's not an answer to that, then developers/publishers don't deserve money for used games.

Many people cannot afford to pay 60 or even 30 bucks for any game. So do you tell them tough kid you only get to play half a dozen or so games on your console for the life of the machine? Let the devs/pubs sell the game make their money and allow people to dispose of their own property as they see fit.

No, you aren't entitled to "recover some initial cost" of a game you blew through. Arguing consumer rights is like arguing politics or religion, since there's no fundamental facts that argument is unwinnable. That being said, however, purchasing a good is essentially a contract. Most times that contract is as simple as "give me money, now you own the good and can do whatever you want with it", but that doesn't preclude someone from legally attaching conditions to that contract. It might not jibe with your political views on consumer rights, but that's the current environment unless laws are enacted.

For MLB 07, Fundamentally you would have to pay whatever the retailer saw fit to charge based on what Sony charged them. You don't have a fundamental right to get something cheap because it's old.

Yes I would. People don't have some inalienable right to media, whether it be games, movies, music, etc. Entertainment media is a luxury, and if you can't afford it I'd tell you the exact same thing I would tell the McDonald's fry cook wanting a Bugatti: Tough ****.

Really?!?!? I have no problem with you defending your position on the subject. I would also, but do you really need to play the moderator card?!?! I have reported maybe 3 or 4 posts in my entire time on OS. I'm perfectly capable at speaking for myself and don't need to run and grab a moderator every time I disagree with someone. I'm sorry but that post just sound very "I'm taking my ball and going home" like. I know the post was not directed at me, but I just found it pretty low to call for a moderator because someone is claiming you favor MS more. Hell I favor Sony now, do I need to call a moderator on myself for me calling myself a new Sony fanboy

Absolutely, it's what they're here for. I'd rather have a reasonable discussion over the topic, rather than personal attacks. Much better for everyone reading the thread to have a post or two and if it's gone too far let the mods handle it. I'm not defending myself, I'm defending what I've posted, and that's being completely ignored and the person typing the post is what's being discussed rather than ANYTHING I've posted is being disputed. What am I to defend? Do I really have to go back and quote my own questioning of the X1 for the PS4 thread? When you and others were beating me up when I said that I was hoping Sony didn't decline to compete when only the X1 specs were leaked and I was afraid Sony was going to pull a Nintendo and play it safe instead of push the envelope (thankfully ended up not being the case)?

It's all an off topic derail about a person, rather than the topic, and if it's going to happen over and over from the same person, absolutely. No reply to peoples' posts should be mudslinging about the person rather than disputing their points. It's just not constructive.

Not getting into the Wii U stuff, because that was a disagreement specifically with a mod.

I've made my case, I consider myself an objective poster but when I post any kind of remotely negative post (or apparently even question what DRM Sony might use) I get posts dedicated to all the different ways I'm a fanboy, my blood is green, I'm friends with MS, I sound like an employee, whatever. Just completely unnecessary. That's the kind of thing that's driven people from these threads, the kind of thing that has good posters like Skyboxer drop by with their 'oh, business as usual here' and not actually keep up with and participate in the discussions.

I like these threads when they actually discuss the topics and help make us all informed consumers come this fall. What we hope and want from these machines, not when they just turn into people tearing people down to undermine anything they've posted - especially without even bothering to address their posts and generalize them as crying, etc.

It's just an unnecessary tangent is all, not a path I want any of the threads to go down and a layer of argument on top of some of the silly partisan arguments that happen already. I've made my case, I consider myself an objective poster but when I post any kind of remotely negative post (or apparently even question what DRM Sony might use) I get posts dedicated to all the different ways I'm a fanboy, my blood is green, I'm friends with MS, I sound like an employee, whatever. Just completely unnecessary. I know the answer, and its a joke that you're in here trying to play the victim as if you have no idea what has happened. Nobody is attacking you, you and nobody has violated the TOS by calling you out on that, because its exactly what people see. Even now, my posts are largely being ignored and marginalized by your judgements of me (from another thread no less). What in the above posts addresses anything I've posted in the last day. I'm not crying about anything (nor said "Can't believe they're not talking" in Phobia's now-deleted post), I posted a link to an article, someone said something easy to dispute - posted just links doing so and then get a few pages now dedicated to the different shades of green that can be picked from my blood stream.

Guess it's time for a break from these threads, as reasonably objective conversation appears to be doing the same. Doubly so since we've moved on from fanboy to either dumb or oblivious.
