    PlayStation 4 Discussion

By changing your DNS you're probably getting routed to a different Sony CDN (content network) which would be the reason why your speeds improve. The clue is that your PC or other devices have great speeds with your ISPs DNS server while your ps4 doesn't.

DNS just resolves a host name/URL to an IP address. When it initiates a download the software is going to use the DNS server to resolve the host name and then communicate directly with the IP address.

The vita can connect directly to the ps4. It doesn't need to be connected to the Internet. In this case you can't be far from the ps4.

          This.

It's actually a feature in the PS4Link application (connecting to a console, without using an access point.) You can toggle the option, but I think it is on by default. The second controller/screen uses this type of connection to reduce lag. They tweaked it to work with remote play too... in short, you don't need Internet to connect a Vita to your PS4.

Oh, I figured for it to do that it was just connecting to the same network.

So when it's doing that, it's not running through wireless at all, just to the PS4? So if I brought my PS4 somewhere and then just some plug, I'd always be good to do Remote Play?

Good to know, I want to try this at school sometime.

Ah, sort of like how ad-hoc works between Vitas or PSPs.

****, I am going to try this too. My wired speeds are a blazing 1.5 upload speed.

My PS4 is using a wired connection, I'm getting 9.3 Mpbs down and 2.0 Mpbs up. When I do a speed test on my laptop or iPad i get 48.58 Mpbs down and 5.53 Mpbs up. Why is my PS4 get such poor results?

We typically only get 15mb/s max with our internet and my PS4 tested at almost 16 earlier this morning. It sucks for you guys who have the potential for some really awesome speeds on the PS4.

I get pretty good results for the most part with my connection.

I used to game on 1.5mb/s back in the States with no lag so this is nice to me.

Same there, it's just how the PS4 is I suppose..

When I test my connection on the PS4 the first one always comes out the worst. If I do 3 consecutive tests after the first I get really excellent results. The same thing when an automatic download comes up, it will say like 4 hours to download. I go and keep pausing and after each pause the download time goes from 4 hours down to 2-5 minutes depending on the file size.

For some reason its first try on a connection is always its weakest.
