    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Used VR and wanting a 3440x1440 21:9 34" monitor to justify buying a 980ti during my last computer build. We're getting ready to buy a house though, if I had to guess I'll become a VR early adopter next fall, probably the HTC Vive.

No way can they launch PSVR at a higher price than what the PS4 is at which is currently at $350. I say $300 because when you add in the other expenses, it's going to come close to OR which makes it look less likely to be worth buying. And of course, a PS4 if you don't already own the console. At $300, it allows Sony to also eventually drop the PS4 to $300 and keep them equal. The peripheral can't be more money than the console especially when it launches or it will fail except to the hardcore fans.

Oh well, luckily for me, I have no interest in VR of any kind.

Sure they can. They've basically already said as much - the price is going to be comparable to a new console, so that's $400-$600. That was hinted at quite a while back.

There's certainly a question as to whether or not it can be successful at that price considering the Oculus reaction, but I won't be at all surprised to see a $400+ tag on it regardless.

They can but I think that they would be stupid if they do. I know that they're targeting those who own a PS4 already but adding in the move controllers, the camera, the processor if it's not included and of course, games plus tax, that's putting it close to OR at $600. I know the pre-orders sold out for OR but im guessing that they were limited quantities and those who pre-ordered OR most likely already have a high end PC so they don't need to spend any additional money. With PSVR, it looks like one expensive gimmick and if Sony wants it to succeed, for most gamers and consumers, $300 is the sweet spot. And if the launch lineup is "meh", then yeah, the lower the better.

If that price is real, that is.

I would hold if even if VR was something that interested me. No sense in dropping $800 on something that could drop in price real quick if units aren't being sold. Always best to wait with things like this.

It's gonna be kids and/or when a game that really blows someone away with VR.

My nephew and my grandson both asked for Oculus for Christmas(when it was just being talked about!)
He talked about a possible 800-1000 dollar price tag as nothing! Huh!

You're buying an OLED 120hz monitor with many additional features. No chance will it be $300.

And in the PSVR's case a secondary processing unit to connect to the console. Even w/ a cheaper HMD that's why I think it'll be higher than some expect.

Doubt it will be be $800 though, certainly placeholder stuff via E3 based on the URL and media used.
