Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Don't forget, ESPN 3D and Discovery 3D were once channels too
It's going to take much longer for 4K to be a household thing than it was for 720/1080 to be a household thing.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
No channel is 1080p and that has been out a long time. We have Blu Ray resolutions for how long now and that never made cable tv improve.
4K tv can go for as low as 500 to 800 dollars. Within 2 years many more will have them as they buy with the intent of streaming 4K and gaming 4K with pc or the new blu ray uhd. It will happen and regular tv has no bearing.Comment

I don't think the average consumer is going to ditch they're perfectly working HDTV just because they're is a new resolution most people see it as a waste of money to buy a TV when they're TV is working fine.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
So - what exactly is the incentive of buying 4K right now then? Its not for cable/dish. Certainly not for streaming. Games utilizing it is still far off. 4K home video releases just started recently. How are those prices compared to blu-rays?
I really don't see what the need to "upgrade" to 4K is right now apart from "well its cheap so I might as well do it."

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
Streaming actually has the most content, Netflix has been streaming 4k for almost 2 years, Amazon and YouTube Steam 4k content and there are dedicated 4k services and Blu-Rays available also.
Already much more support there than 3D ever had.

Searching for something to watch on your new 4K TV? Look no further. This list highlights the best places to find 4K and HDR content, both on-demand and live.
Big TV is the key word here...If you have a Theater Room you're thinking of creating....
The big question is whether 4K is actually noticeably better than Full HD. THX, the digital audio and video mastering firm, says the golden number is 55 inches and 6 feet. If your TV is more than 55 inches and you are viewing it from a distance of 6 feet or less, you will actually notice the difference between 4K and Full HD. If not, forget about it.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
6 feet from the TV seems unnecessarily close. That's why it's 55+ inches... so you don't have to sit so close.
My couch is probably 10-12 feet from my TV.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
How much content is available in 4K from Netflix? And is streaming 4k a viable option for the average consumer's bandwidth?
Netflix recommends a "steady" internet speed of 25 Mbps. I can't get that where I live unless I want to go back to Comcast and even then I don't think I would actually get that speed without spending more than I currently am for TV and Internet.

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I've got 55 and was looking into getting 65'' at that time, so I wasn't spot on, but close enough.
Those 4K ranges are dumb close, 10 feet optimal for 85''?!? No thanks man, that's crazy.Always looking for solid CF25 Dynasty owners, follow the link to get started >> PS5 P5 Dynasty DiscordComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I'm not here to try and sell 4K to anyone. I don't think 3D or 4K are gimmicks, I just see them as options. I think 4K content will grow faster than the 3D channels that were mentioned. I only got to see an Ohio State football game that was filmed in true 3D and it was incredible. It blew my mind, and I couldn't get over the depth it provided.
As for 4K, I find it to be glorious, especially with sports and documentaries. I'm hoping that Rogers is going to broadcast The Masters in 4K. Fingers crossed. I wish there was more 4K content, but as an early adapter...it could be worse. I've mentioned it before, every Jays home game will be broadcasted in 4K. That alone is worth the price of admission for me.
Maybe size does matter!Mine is 78 inches and my wife says it's too big, but she loves the curve in it. The 55 inch tv that I have beside it seems tiny in comparison. That being said, the 55 inch tv has a great picture. (Both tv's are Samsung). I don't think 4K is like the jump from SD to HD, however if it's something an individual is interested in, I would say "go for it", but in no way is it necessary.
Don't forget the tv companies are already developing 8K.I am the lesson after the fall.Comment
