Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I have the Samsung 850 Pro SSD with 512gb just received yesterday from Amazon on my PS4 and it allows about 10 games with load times being reduced greatly
Stock Drive on the Witcher from main menu to game it was 1:37 seconds and with the Samsung Pro 850 SSD it was 1:07 seconds
In GTA 5 loading story took 1:42 seconds in stock and 1:24 seconds with the SSD
Games online load textures quicker as well like the division performs with less popping as well as GTA 5
I am returning the drive today because the Sandisk 1tb cost the same and performs the same with the PS4 so rather do that
But I will need to get an SSD for the XB1 as well
I think load times in big games like BloodBorne, Witcher 3, GTA, Fall Out, Dark Souls 3 and Quatum Break will benefit from the SSD big time if you can find a good price pointStreaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I assume you have the one with 6 or 8gb of flash storage? That one helps a lot to but getting the 32gb flash will lead to more and for more games to benefit
I got the SSHD on the xb1 with 8gb flash and notice improvement but want to get an SSD for both consoles
I am always looking for deals and if you search you can find ssd for same price as hybridComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
On xb1 I will get the same drive but the good thing about the xbox one is that is additional storage compared to ps4 which is replacing storageComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
The Samsung SSD Pro I have is 512 gb which is more then enough for me as I dont play old games after I am done with them. I stick to about 6 games year long and that is more then enough for me
On xb1 I will get the same drive but the good thing about the xbox one is that is additional storage compared to ps4 which is replacing storage
Is this true, necessarily?
I was thinking of taking it out once in awhile to plug it into my PC, reformat, optimize with Samsung Magician, and re-plugging it into he PS4 (would just have to re-download some games)"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
That only thing that worries me about having an SSD in my ps4 is people telling me that without TRIM support on the PS4, the drive will start to slow down and fail sooner.
Is this true, necessarily?

SSDs work differently than mechanical hard drives, they have to be written in larger blocks and they have to be erased before something new can be written. TRIM allows the SSD know what can be erased on the fly. SSD makers have made things like garbage collection to help the old problem of having old data gumming up the space, but they create more problems. SSD chips can only be written a certain amount of times, garbage collection takes all the known good stuff, writes it to empty blocks, then erases the old blocks with old data written to it. This causes the SSD to have increased wear and uneven wear, meaning long term the SSD will have capacity fail sooner and more unevenly.
Makers have minimalized the negative effects of not having TRIM, but it's still way worse without it to the life of the SSD. I wouldn't worry about a modern SSD in a console, it's not likely going to last 10 years but that's not really going to be a major issue.Comment

I never also keep my SSD close to max, I run all but about 5 to 6 games and have well over 120 gb left. I know this will last me for as long as I keep the ps4 and in the long term perhaps use it on my laptopComment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
How much of a deal would it be though if there was one? Also then you would have to redownload ever thing and transfer saves to the new one like you do if a system breaks and you get a new one and that is a pain in the butt. I still think this is just a rumor or even a early April fools joke but we will see. If they really do this would the current ps4 go down in price? Or would this one cost more then 400?
All of my saves are uploaded to the cloud and I only keep about three games downloaded on my system at a time. I'd lose a day of gaming maybe. Not a big deal at all, especially since I lose several days a week anyway between job, gym, and life.Comment

Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion
I would only buy this new PS4 if my PS4 dies and i can't afford a gaming PC or if i have no interest on the Nintendo NX.
I'm really not wanting to support Sony's disrespectful move towards 40 million+ consumers.
Gotta say, PS4.5 is Sony's Steam Machine, but more limited, and with a worse marketplace.PSN ID/Street Fighter V Fighter ID: razorkaosComment
