BE CAREFUL with this. the developer HAS TO downsample it. the ps4 just wont randomly do it

Rise of the tomb raider for example downsamples it very well BUT the developer made it so that it downsamples. Its not as easy as put in disk/start game and ps4 pro does the rest

We've known this for a little while now. They basically have dual cards in the system. They keep the second card off if the developer doesn't support the Pro. I believe the reason was for capability concerns. Instead of creating, and implementing a brand new video card, they just adding another one that they can turn on/off.

Regarding GTA, yes, it looks nice, but lets not forget it's not locked at 30 fps either. That is a much bigger deal, honestly. I've sacrificed some graphics to maintain 80 fps.

If you're fine with PC gaming, then yes, it would be better for you to get a better video card. You have greater control over how you want your games to look. But for console gamers (not everyone wants to game on PC and the new PS4 is about the same price as just the 1070 video card), this is really the best they're going to get for at least a year. They just need to hope that developers support it for 1080 and 4k.

@Tomba...I never had the patience to deal with building my own PC but if you do, I think going PC is a better choice. Personally, I don't wanna deal with all that so even if all I had was a 1080p set, I'd grab the Pro in time. Plus you know the first party games are going to be great at maximizing 1080p with the Pro.

When all this was first announced, I didn't see the benefit of the Pro with only a 1080p tv. Though I'm having a hard time spotting the difference in screenshots, the videos I've seen there's a tangible difference. I think it's worth it, especially going forward with new releases getting more widespread support.

I personally keep going back and forth on this, but honestly, I like new toys so I'll probably be hooking up a new system on Thursday.

If the games get 1080p dev support (even if it's just downsampling), then it's probably worth it for me. If some games get a higher/more stable frame rate, then it's absolutely worth it for me.

I'll never play on a TV. I'm going to get a 4K monitor soon, but for now, I'm sort of dependent on 1080 support.

I overreacted because i srsly thought thru some early rumors that the ps4 pro would indeed be able to supersample any 1080p image itself. after seeing the menu options it doesnt

When they compare rise of the tomb raider titanfall i have no interest since a gtx 970 will look better than a stock ps4 anyway.

I'll end my squabble here and just say this.

Final fantasy 15 wont be on pc for a long while.
Horizon Zero dawn wont be on pc ever.
and GTSport wont ever come to pc.

Its worth it to get a Pro still...

Thats how good those three games are

                        Here is one
Are those labeled incorrectly? The one on the left looks more dynamic and "HDR" like (or what I thought HDR meant) to me than the one on the right.

Maybe I"m confused as to what I'm looking for though...

EDIT: Ok its not backwards, I just misunderstood what the effect would be. God this stuff is getting confusing, LOL

It's not a requirement to upgrade since it will work with all PS4 models. PS Vanilla has to offer 60 fps at the cost of resolution. PS Pro will improve the resolution while maintaining the frames requirements.

HDR lighting appears to be more dynamic and has more range.

I keep refreshing my Amazon order in the hopes it will say 'shipped'. Guess I'm ready for the Pro.

Yeah, i'm mostly thinking it would help my frame rates out a lot and diminish (even if slightly) the chances of getting queasy when playing.
