Their website is even more misleading... Has trade ANY PS4, Xbox, Switch and get up to $350 trade credit.

So I called them right away... And then came away disappointed.

They bank on the fact people will get their system, get in the car, go there and then when they find out it's not the case they will just go ahead anyways. Clasic bait and switch really and yet another reason to hate that store IMO

I’m not big on GameStop at all but that is not a bait and switch. You literally can trade ANY of those consoles for UP TO 350. I have no idea what people are missing here. They are telling you exactly what’s going on. Why would anyone think you would get 350 for an OG PS4 or XBox One? That makes no sense at all.

I’m not big on GameStop at all but that is not a bait and switch. You literally can trade ANY of those consoles for UP TO 350. I have no idea what people are missing here. They are telling you exactly what’s going on. Why would anyone think you would get 350 for an OG PS4 or XBox One? That makes no sense at all.

I’m not missing anything. It’s a clever way of getting people to bring in their trades. They are hoping people will read it exactly as some have and bring in their trades without calling ahead first.

Then while there, they are banking that people will still go through with the trade despite not getting what they thought they would.

When I called a local GameStop even the associate stated the wording was confusing and a bit misleading

Some might, yes.

It reads as some special bonus incentive to sell the Pro console while getting more used inventory for high demand consoles at tax time

This ad is out there and people read it thinking they are going to get $350 for their old console or at least significantly more than the current trade value. So they go to GameStop to trade their console only to find that the trade value hasn’t changed. So that either go through with the trade or take it all back home. Some, I’ll say maybe 4 out of 10 will go through with the trade because they went through the trouble and had already purchased the Pro in their mind.

With that, GameStop gets the money from a sale of a Pro plus they get the inventory plus profits of selling the used console for typically more than double what they gave for it. And at this time of year, tax time, used console/game sales sky rocket.

Again it’s not bait and switch and it’s not illegal, but it is a clever marketing idea to get more potential trades into the store.

Getting 350 for a console that don't even cost that much right now would be crazy but with what it says it is giving off the impression that they would do just that.

It’s not though. You are reading it wrong. “Trade any console in for up to 350”.

Any console you have can get up to 350. People are ignoring the “up to”.

Yup. I may get a sales e-mail from Best Buy that says something like "Take up to 60% off selected Blu-ray/DVD's," and when I find the list I notice that most of the Blu-rays are just 5% off, with one DVD of Grown Ups 2 on sale from $5 down to $2.

It's pretty ridiculous they can get away with that kind of advertising.

Just going to reiterate what my original post was referencing. In the email it said "get up to an extra $350 credit" and that's where my question came in. They have done similar ads before trading toward big new releases. They offer an extra $10 or something if you trade certain games. When they do it, you get whatever the trade value is PLUS $10. In other words, the key difference in the email vs. the website is the word extra.

So...no, the website isn't wrong/misleading at all. The email on the other hand is because there is no way to get an extra $350 credit ($350 TOTAL, yes...but the email says EXTRA) on a system. It's not wrong ($70 is less than $350, after all) but it begs the question of how someone could maximize the offer and get an extra $350 for their system as the email says.
