Thanks for all the thoughts and feedback, appreciate it.

It certainly doesn't work in your case. From our research (which has been mostly verified post-launch), the vast majority of customers would not need to switch inputs once they got the Xbox One, as it theoretically* meets all these needs for customers:
    • Game console
    • Streaming TV/movies
    • Blu-Ray player
    • Live TV

As the console evolves, things like HDMI ports are constantly being evaluated by the hardware and business teams.

*I say theoretically because personal preference and technical exceptions come into play here.

That's frustrating, I understand that. I assume you've done the calibration with the volume cranked up 2-3 times too loud? Is the Kinect sitting right of front of speakers or anything?

Yeah, those channels sound so similar, it's tough. However, I generally have success with those channels, so let me know if re-calibration or re-positioning the Kinect helps. I know it's not a magic bullet.

    Understood.

This would actually make recognition even worse, because disambiguation of 1000+ numbers is far harder than the short list of names we currently load into the Kinect's grammar.

I understand the desire, but it would unfortunately not help things (right now).

Not at all. Appreciate the post!

Functionality isn't replaced, but retired my chromecast when we got the One. The eased a single input trumps so much for us, especially as a relatively jaded Google TV (Revue) owner.

The sound bar that I use is about 2 feet below the Kinect.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I have the PS4 connected as well.

I'll try the recalibration later this week and keep you posted.

I'll consider doing that the day XBO supports Funimation, Crunchyroll, and allowing me to "airplay" from my machine to my TV.

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?

Studbucket, I know this is outside of your area, but I'm wondering if you are familiar with a new issue I've had. I've seen it mentioned in pother places, but it doesn't seem super common.

When I turn on the Xbox One for the first time each day, or if it has been off for a significantly long time between uses, the screen is dimmed like it has been inactive. But using the controller and moving around in the UI does not bring the picture back. But when I reboot the console, it comes back every time.

Also, and I don't know if this is your area either, if you could add the ability to add a delay to specific devices that are turned on by the Kinect, it would really help with handshaking issues. I've noticed after updates it begins working right, but over time, the AVR does not get turned on late enough, and I end up with a blank screen. Once I turn the AVR off and on, all is good. This is an issue outside of the console, but my Harmony remote allows me to add delays to help with the handshaking. It would be cool if the Kinect would do the same.

You should also tell the team that I am absolutely loving the console after all of these updates. I don't do the preview, but I couldn't be more excited for the October release. At that point, it might be perfect.

Strange, I have not heard about that. I have a few questions before I relay this to the appropriate team. Does hitting the "Home"/Xbox button on the controller get rid of it? What about launching or closing apps?

When you say reboot, is it a hard reboot, or just going into low power mode and resuming into instant on mode? (basically, does it take 10 seconds or 60 seconds to boot?)

Yeah, I understand the request. There's not much power the user has here, and sometimes AV equipment can get a little messed up if things aren't powered on in the right order.

Thanks. We hear this a lot from our customers, and we love that you all love it. It's the kind of thing that's a compliment to the entire engineering team.

Nothing I do on the screen, from hitting the home button to launching apps, or even watching TV helps. All of it is dimmed, just ask t would if the console had been left untouched for a long period of time.

It is not a hard reset that fixes it, but just the normal, turn it off, turn it on. So the 10 second option.

I did finally fins mention of it in the Xbox One support forums, and it seems like a hard reboot may fix it. I will give that a try, which I probably should have done before. That does seem to fix most issues.

Here is a link to the forum post that describes the issue. They list it as answered, but there is not actually a confirmation that the issue is resolved.

And thanks for the time you take to help us out here. You are way more dependable than we have any right to expect.

I do. I thought the whole goal was to get rid of this setup though.

Would be nice if the XBO could change the input of my switch or TV with a voice command. It's not as if I need to see the input that the XBO is on, you know.

I watch tbs all the time. If you say it quick you will get Pbs. Just emphasize the T. It works for me almost perfectly.

I've done it so many ways, it's funny. The problem is that when you have to put SO much effort into getting it right, it loses it's convenience. You know what I mean?

The only problem I have is sometimes if I tell it to go to a high number channel it only inputs the first number. Like lets say the channel number is 265 the one only sends the 2 over to my directtv box. Even though it says it's going to the correct channel in the top right. It doesn't happen often but it happens. I'm pretty happy with the voice commands though. They are nearly flawless for me since I recalibrated a month or so ago.

The tbs/pbs happens but only if I say it too fast. If I sound out the T correctly it works. Can't fault it much for that. Those letters sound very similar.

I'm not sure what the official name of the button is, but it's the one with the 2 little boxes where the select button was on the older generation controllers.
