Okay, thanks. I couldn't seem to get a clear answer. Maybe it was just me not understanding.

No worries. The media remote allows you to control volume, channel up/down, play/pause/ff/rwd, etc and open the guide.

Re: Questions About Live TV on Xbox One?

How is the TV Tuner for Xbox One? My wife and I are looking at budgets, and our cable bill is insane...we could spend half of the cable portion on stuff like Sling TV or Hulu and be ok.

If I canceled cable, I could possibly still get QAM channels over my coax (we get the basics for free in our guest room without a box). Would that work just plugging the coax into the TV tuner, and One Guide could be configured?

Otherwise I'd have to figure out getting a HD Antenna, and hook it up to my house's coax so all the rooms could get the signal. Obviously I'd hope my cable company would just let the basics flow through, but that's no guarantee.

Is that how it works though? Either QAM or antenna, plug into tuner, and it'll work? That would make life easier in getting regular channels (no DVR, but still).

Not sure if cord cutting would work, just crazy spending all that on cable that we really don't use that much...mostly background noise and at night.

Would make that rumored Xbox One DVR even cooler. Maybe let you share content with other xboxes on same network?

          A few things:
          1) The TV tuner generally should work just as well as plugging an antenna into your TV. I know it does a better job picking up channels that something like HomeWorX OTA boxes.

          2) Unfortunately the tuner doesn't support ClearQAM, so you'd need to pick up an antenna. Check out gomohu.com/xbox to see what type of antenna you may want.

          3) I have Comcast, and I save ~$30/month on my cable bill each month because I use CableCard instead of cable boxes. Unsure who your provider is, or the details, but I can give some tips on using a TiVo from Craigslist. A TiVO without subscription is a great Xbox One passthrough box.

Let me know if you have other questions. I've spent way too much time looking into this stuff as part of work.

            Yeah...

Seems like I'd need to get either one (and figure out how to hook it up to my house right so it goes across all coax, but not totally sure where that split happens) or get 3 antenna for use around the various tvs we have. I've looked at that site, and can probably get away with a cheaper-ish antenna, i'm within 15 miles of all channels.

How much are the TIVOs? That could be cool, and even cooler if I could get 2 and network them...

The catch is I'd rather not add that much spending cause then we're not really saving lol. I'm thinking probably 120 or whatever for the 2 tuners, then more for antennas (ideally I'd be able to buy one, but not sure), and TIVO on top of it....Fingers crossed MS creates DVR lol

It does seem realistic though...crazy how much we spend for most stuff we don't really use/need. It'll require a bit of a shift in how we watch tv, but we're definitely considering it. Probably check out some trials in apps on Xbox and go from there

I've bought old TiVo HDs for $35 on Craigslist. I put a CableCard in (0-$2 from Comcast), plug in the network cable periodically, turn off most UX, and don't do any subscription. Recordings have to be done DVR style (this time on this channel), but it's great for dumb passthrough.

You're right about the OTA cost estimations. Up front, you're looking at $100+. However, if you can cut $50-100 off your cable bill, you're saving a bunch right up front.

                Makes sense....

Might not be a bad option to get a cheap Tivo just for some local stuff...Even if I go OTA.

The cablecard would cost 2 bucks a month, but I would have to pay for the basic cable tier too...Interesting though, maybe while talking to Cox I get a deal for base cable and that keeps it easier for me....Might not need as many streaming things either.

For me, keeping basic cable + internet is cheaper than just internet. Not sure if Cox is the same.

EDIT: D'oh, misread it. I don't think so, I think we would have announced that. It says "Snapped or background on home screen," which basically means it will play music when it doesn't have primary focus.

                      -------------
That appears to be for the Xbox App on Windows.

Yeah....would i be able to hook the Tivo to HDMI and use the TV/voice controls the same way (ie. Xbox Watch ABC would change to ABC?)...I'll have to call, but the bundles are usually a good enough deal so it might not be cheaper to go just internet. Then I just spend on some Tivo and research that.

Any experience with those? I don't know if my basic cable would be recognized by it, but it'd be a cheaper way to upgrade eventually to DVR if i wanted...

So many options. I'm tempted to just get it working with the Xbox One Tuner, but i'd have to figure out my house wiring...

I really need to call cable company and see what my price will drop down to...

I do find that things don't always want to work perfectly, so might have to buy something and test it out.
