Yeah, I left PC gaming a decade ago because I preferred the ease and comfort of console gaming. I realized I was going to to give up certain franchises and genres, but I gained time, money, and a lack of stress. I now compute on Macs that last forever (especially when upgrading to play a game is not on the menu), and game on whatever console delivers the games and value I prefer.

It is a weird balance, though. I would never buy a TV based on the kind of apps it has. We used to have a Tivo that did Netflix, so the fact that the 360 was not a big deal, until we realized it was a far better version of the app, and the Kinect added even more value.

Microsoft may have gone overboard, catering to its growing majority of customers that used the 360 to stream media, but I was excited to see Microsoft's effort to provide all of that functionality in a console from the start, as opposed to a the 360, which had all of this addd over time.

I don't understand Daniel's annoyance with people that do appreciate and talk about the media stuff, because I would think that it would help clarify what it is people like about the console. If someone seriously would not use the features we are excited about, then it is easy for them to discount their value to the console, and possibly select something else.

I can tell you right now, if I were to sell the XB1, it would annoy my wife and daughter. They don't really play any of the exclusives, so getting them on the PS4 wold be no big deal. But take away the Kinect and how we use to with all of our media stuff, and they would miss it greatly. Hell, I took the TV out of the console for awhile early on because it was having issues with our old Tivo, and they still asked for it back.

I kind of hope Microsoft goes whole hog and designed the console to be a full on DVR in which we just need to add a an external hard drive to. I'm not counting on that, though. I'm picky about my DVR's, and the Genie from DirecTV is awesome in a ton of huge and subtle ways.

              Happy wife, happy life lol

All the media stuff made it simple to talk her into a 2nd One for the bedroom, doubt I could have talked her into a 2nd PS4 (that would have been more of a waste of money, and I would have had to agree).

As a current 360 owner looking to jump to next gen, I def spend as much if not more time on the entertainment apps (ESPN, NFL, WWE Network, etc) with my Xbox as the games now. Are the multimedia functions of the XBO that much more than the 360, or is keeping the 360 to pair with the PS4 something that would be viable?

Next gen apps seem to be more plentiful on the Xbox at this point, but some big ones are still missing, like Crunchyroll and HBO Go. Especially with Kinect, though, the apps on the One really are better than the the 360.

We still use the 360 to watch HBO Go and lament every time we can't pause and such on the 360, because I don't want two Kinects sitting on my TV. We really are ready for it to arrive for the One.

The NFL App is pretty cool to snap while watching games, as was the Brazil Now app during the World Cup.

Apps coming, as of June are below. UFC Fight Pass on twitter said they're hoping for Q4 for their app, it's not listed. Furthermore I've preferred the XBO approach to apps so far. Take Twitch for example, we have a general app and can view everything, while Sony has a customized Sony-branded experience and you can only watch streams from other playstation consoles.

New app experiences coming to Xbox One and Xbox 360 include:

Re: Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

PS4 over XBOne all day, every day.

                      Why?
I game on the consoles, exclusively. Occational movie here and there. But for gaming, PS4 is vastly superior. Better resolution and overall graphical quality. But that's because of the better GPU in the PS4. More stable framerate. It also runs much cooler. My XBOne runs quite hot, but maybe its a faulty unit.

I don't use any of the multi media on the XBOne, as I have other things for that. So that stuff is completely useless for me. If I game, I game. I'm not worried about watching tv while gaming, so that gimmick does not interest me at all.

If I had to choose only one out of the two, I'd pick the PS4, hands down. Pondering donating the XBOne to a childrens hospital or something.

Owners of both PS4 and Xbox One: Pros and Cons

I know a few people who own both and they seem to lean the other way at this point. Their ps4s are essentially paperweights. Everyone is different I suppose. The ps4 hype drove the console at the start of this generation but better exclusives and updates to the console have really swayed a few people I know that have both in the xboxone direction.

I own both now after starting with just a PS4. I hate how Sony's arrogance has eliminated the use of universal remotes. I am not going to sit and watch Netflix or a movie and use a game controller as the remote. It's just silly and I don't get why Sony doesn't understand that not everyone wants to use a controller for everything. The PS4 may be the better gaming system, but it could be so much more.

Using my Harmony Ultimate is awesome with the Xbox One and because of that alone, the Xbox One is my system of choice.

Sony hasn't done much since launch. They could have doubled down on their success. Instead they've done very little. They're releasing a large update one year after release but their communication is miserable. They could use a person similar to Major Nelson/Larry Hryb.

I too know several people that have migrated over.

I've owned both PS4 and Xbox One, but I'm sticking with PS4 as my only console going forward. Microsoft has a great system that continues to get better, and I enjoyed it for a while, but with limited gaming time and kids, I realized I only want to invest in one. I can get my FIFA and 2K fix on either console, but I have to have Uncharted, anything from Naughty Dog, The Show, plus some of the exclusives like The Tomorrow Children, Bloodborne, and GT. IMO Xbox Live definitely has a leg up on PSN, but gaming less online, I admire the simplicity of the PS4 experience. Can't wait to see what Masamune does for the UI.

Another factor...I can't get over how much better Sony's new controller feels compared to the PS3. Night and day difference.

They haven't done it yet but it's come up a few times that some friends are considering getting a One that were decidedly PS4-only this gen. The continuous updates and EA Access being 2 of the most commonly cited reasons.
